What did you expect from a feminist movie where the wife kills her husband?
[β]MoralImpeachability51 points52 points53 points 8 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link
Also netflix is cucked as fuck. They removed star ratings after one of the female 'comedians' (MUH VAGINA!!! ba-dum-tss) was scoring too low.
[β]mma1357919 points20 points21 points 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
They also ruined black mirror, season 4 was trash
[β][deleted] 10 points11 points12 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Season 3 was pretty shitty too. The show was better before Netflix touched it.
[β]mp1112 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Season 4 was really female empowerment heavy
[β]ziggmuff2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
This is 1000% true.
They don't want truth or dissenting opinion to hurt the wymins feelins.
[β]Snowhey013 points4 points5 points 8 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
I thought he had a heart attack, did I miss something?
[β]DangZagnut6 points7 points8 points 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
He had a heart attack, brought on by her kicking him off her, true, but it was established.
[β]mp1110 points1 point2 points 8 years ago* (1 child) | Copy Link
They were in that situation based on his suggestion. Iβm all for being impartial, but someone having a heart attack and leaving you handcuffed is in no way the handcuffees fault. In that situation, Iβd be fucking dead. There is no way Iβd have the foresight to deglove myself.
[β]DangZagnut1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Absolutely. It was Gerald's game. I was more responding to the "wife kills her husband" when that was a natural cause situation, and it happened to occur when she was in a screwed situation.
[β]Justanotherh8er42042 points43 points44 points 8 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link
Actually dude has heart attack while he's 50 shades blacking her and she's chained to the bed the rest of the story. It was a really good book don't know what they've done to it with the TV treatment. The best part is when the dog comes in and starts eating her husband in front of her. True survival horror very gritty.
[β]Bilbo_T_Baggins_OMG20 points21 points22 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Overall it was a decent movie, except that near the end they claimed her husband was as bad as a child molester because one time she overheard him make a joke about women.
[β]poloppoyop2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
It was a really good book
Agreed. King is really good at writing about the psychological effect of situations on people. The Shining is a masterpiece for that: as you read what is going through the guy's head you see why he's going psycho.
Another good one I recommend is The long walk. Also most of his short stories; Dolan's Cadillac is a must-read.
[β]WikiTextBot1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
The Long Walk
The Long Walk is by American writer Stephen King, published in 1979, under the pseudonym Richard Bachman. It was collected in 1985 in the hardcover omnibus The Bachman Books, and has seen several reprints since, as both paperback and hardback.
Set in a dystopian America circa 1980, the novel follows an alternate history in which Germany appears to have won World War II. The plot revolves around the contestants of a grueling walking contest, held annually by a totalitarian version of the United States of America. In 2000, the American Library Association listed The Long Walk as one of the 100 best books for teenage readers published between 1966 and 2000.
Dolan's Cadillac (short story)
"Dolan's Cadillac" is a short story by Stephen King. It was originally published in Castle Rock, King's official newsletter, in monthly installments from February to June 1985. In 1993, "Dolan's Cadillac" was collected in Nightmares & Dreamscapes. The story is narrated by the protagonist, a schoolteacher, and there is only one other main character, Dolan.

King is really good at writing about the psychological effect of situations on people.
I think he best book in this regard is Pet Semetary. It is also why his short stories are not as well-regarded IMHO because the characters don't have the development and depth they do in the novels.

That's a category o.o ok
But where's the Stong Men category? What's that? That's sexist, mysoginistic and reinforces gender norms and cultural disparity. You want a female Indiana Jones too? Ok cupcake have fun running Hollywood, me and the guys are going on a realllll long hike.
[β][deleted] 7 points8 points9 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
We had that already. Remember "movies for guys who like movies" shit was awesome!
[+]cersei01lannister-8 points-7 points-6 points 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
Itβs because of the lack of films with a Strong Female Lead (thatβs the name of the category in UK I believe). So so so many movies have a strong male lead, hence no need for a sub category. Simple as that really.
Also, I would kill for a female Indiana Jones, but Iβm happy enough with Lara Croft for now. Look out though! Weβre coming for him!

I watched "the descent" thinking it was a cave horror. You realize its an all girl crew 5 minutes in and the only time they reference a man is when they said" I saw a man in the Darkness" in reference to the monsters they were going to inevitably kill
Feminist as fuck
[β][deleted] 5 points6 points7 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Shauna McDonald played a very well role in Nails. It's also on Netflix. That's one is not feminist I promise. Watch that one next. Besides I found her to be absolutely cute as fuck the more I continued to watch the movie.
[β]-Fender-6 points7 points8 points 8 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
I thought that that movie was actually pretty good, as far as horror movies go. Sure, it's unlikely that a group of women would go exploring a cave out in the wild alone by themselves, but there wasn't anything too over the top, and none of them were kung fu masters tossing around dozens of 250 pound men.
[β]Judah_Earl0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
And the ending implies it was all a delusion by one of them anyway.
(Though I think they changed it for the U.S release)
[β]-Fender-0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Well, the version I saw, it ends with the last survivor imagining that she found a way out, was saved, and that she saw her daughter again, while in reality she's just hallucinating while being still stuck in the cave while you hear the creatures approaching.
Did it end differently in the version you saw?
The US version ended with a jump scare in the car IIRC. Like she made it out, got in the car and passed out and then one of the dead folks shows up in the car. They left out the bit with the birthday cake and her daughter.

Have you heard of the Bechdel test? Basically the opposite of what you described, but look it up and see how many films have failed.
Then quit whining.
[β]Mister_Mask3 points4 points5 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
βYou canβt complain about this bad movie because there are other movies out there that are better than this one.β
[β]rebuildingMyself1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
If a movie "fails" this test, I usually consider it something I'll enjoy. Any move that has "passed" this test is feminist and obnoxious as fuck.

Rather watch free porn at Pornhub than this shit.
[β]Phantom_Spark9 points10 points11 points 8 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link
Wow wtf. If they make that a music genre I will flip over a table in disbelief!

"All the women, independent!"
Next track:
"I need a soldier, and he's gotta stand up for me..."

LOL. You remind me why I stopped listening to popular music years ago! LOL.
[β][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
You are correct. We had a similar thread to this a few weeks back actually. Destinies child is a joke.
[β]ziggmuff1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
This is why I could give a fuck less about Beyonce and mainstream music.

[β]goober_boobz9 points10 points11 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Lifetime and chill
[β]rebuildingMyself0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Catering to the fat feminist bitch living off ex-hubbie's alimony yet considering her self muh strong independent.
[β]Darth_Toenail4 points5 points6 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Horror and fantasy have always been closely related.
[β][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I was going to watch the movie then I realized I'd much better remember her as the one in son in law but yes Netflix has that tag now a days.
[β]LJHova1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I like King's work, but the guy is a mangina.
[β]Leseome0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
But is she independent? π€
No. She's tied up. At best it's their fantasy aka delusion.
[β]frankmarlowe0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I am all for that becoming a genre. Let's me filter that shit out of my life so much easier.
[β]Nezborn020 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
mainstream anything is shit
[β]ShrunkenHed0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Yeah, that's a genre now. I actually like it. It tells me up front if I should skip it.
