This brings up something I was thinking about for awhile now. Why is "bitch" such as enormous insult? It's meaning it is such a tame thing to say, it just means a female dog. The only thing that makes sense is that it can only be applied to women, and therefore gets turned into a grave and serious attack.

It goes to show how much society reveres the female, if simply calling a person a dog becomes such an insult, simply because it can only be applied to women.
