France’s new gender equality minister has called for perpetrators of sexual harassment to be given an on-the-spot fine of €5,000.

Marlène Schiappa believes giving police officers the power to hand out fines worth £4,400 would be a deterrent for men who do not take the issue seriously and think that they are just being the “French lover”.

Sexual harassment is a “huge phenomenon in France,” Ms Schiappa, who has been appointed by the country’s new president Emmanuel Macron, told the Guardian.

In the interview, Ms Schiappa suggested that part of the problem was male attitudes. “Men feel it’s acceptable: they’re being ‘the French lover’.” “It’s that moment when a man is walking behind a woman, talking to her, and the woman can do nothing, because she’s alone.”

I'm fine with this law, as long as it's fair and the definition of harassment covers all of it. Muslims, women flirting around, all of it. This would cover so many things. Like a woman asking a guy to buy her a drink. Or a woman asking a guy to carry something for her - this counts as sexual harassment because she wouldn't ask a female to do it, well perhaps a butch lesbian. And it would include any female trying to instate a law that affects men adversely compared to women.

This could trigger a nation..

Any move that reduces the sexual reproductive capacity of a people is not inherently bad, I think, because when the group gets smaller, they will likely become more intelligent. Less swayed by mob mentality. The stronger voices will have more sway (men).
