She is holding your kids hostage and using them to drain your money. She knows you are unlikely to deny your kids what they need.

Ask her for an accounting of where she is spending half your salary. It could even be a copy of her credit card or bank statement. She won't give it to you because it is likely she is spending it on herself. But make giving any more money to her dependent on getting a full accounting.

You've gotta take a hard line and just say no. Because it will never end. Explain how much you already give and that she is responsible for half of their support now. Keep records of everything to show your kids when they are old enough to understand.

If your kids definitely need something , and you want to provide , tell her you will take the kids to get it , whether it be clothes, shoes , or something for school or after school etc.Do not give her cash direct .

Do not give her cash for her to buy stuff for herself.She needs to learn to budget and live within her means , same as you .Tell her this directly if she asks, or to get a job. You are no longer her provider , her protector or her slave. You are however a Father to your kids ....if you want to be.

Pay 10-25% over the required amount for six consecutive months. Keep detailed receipts and records of your contributions and her request. Then arrange a court hearing to re-evaluate the situation. Have your lawyer request that she show proof of employment or inability to employed due to a medical condition.

In ontario these expenses fall under 'section 7 expenses'. I am responsible for support and alimony as well as section 7. The split on section 7 is based on disparity of income so my ex and i split these costs 70/30 as per the law.

My advice is:

1) learn the law. Learn what you are responsible for as mandated by the law, ask a professional if you can

2) forget about whatever you cant change. If its the law then do your best to not worry about it, pay and move on

3) record everything. Any money you spend on your kids jeep reciepts and a log book

Just no... Agree with your kids that if they truly need something, they'll come to you. My mom did the same to my dad, while we were wearing tattered clothing she'd buy expensive lingerie to entertain her lover.. I don't even think I'd put up with her wanting money from me while not working..

I buy the items themselves with no receipt or tags so she can't return them. Outside of my child support she never receives actual money from me.

When I left my ex she immediately filed for child support. I told her that if she felt the need to involve the government in our finances that I would never pay more than what I was legally obligated to. The bitch spat some vile crap and proceeded with her application.

Every time the state has made a decision or assessment regarding my CS she has tried to fight it tooth and nail. She always has a sad story of why she needs more of my money. She has even contacted my family and friends to bad-mouth and shame me for the amount that I pay; I guess in the hopes that they would encourage me to "be a real man" and pay her more in order to better support our child (it is only OUR child when she needs MY money... funny how that works).

Never, ever pay one dollar more than what you are legally obligated to do. Only suckers would ask how they could be a better slave for a parasite.

Never hand over money. If you feel like any particular request is reasonable, then provide the thing, service or whatever yourself directly.

The default answer whenever she asks for money is NO. You pay only what the court has ordered you pay and not a penny more. Your kids will be fine, don't let her manipulate you emotionally with her mini-hostages. If you are required to pay child support due to court order, pay it. If you are required to pay half of children's activites up to X dollars per year, demand receipts and pay half of the receipt totals. Keep the rest of your money and invest it. Your kids will thank you when they need college tuition you didn't blow everything on Pokemon cards and their mom's nails.
