This is grounds to have the local police, and municipal attorneys involved. They are charging an illegal tax, this can get them fined or shut down unless they comply with local and state tax regulations.

I hope those people wake up and have a meeting with the local mayor to have the proper state regulators pay a visit to them. A hidden video of a man being charged while at their shop would be enough to start the ball rolling to fix this BS.

I live in the city, where this cafe is located and I don't care.

Private businesses can charge whatever they like, and everyone is free to take their business elsewhere, if they disagree with it.

Some products and services, such as hygiene products and hair cuts, can be reasonably charged differently, and no one bats an eyelid over it (except some loudmouthed sooks).

Ideally, a private business should be allowed to exclude and refuse to serve a potential customer, for any reason too.

Let the free market decide, whether this business is sustainably feasible or not.
