I wish she had had the strength of principle to reject the position. She should know she is not as attractive as the other candidates were, and that she has no right to attempt to define Finnish beauty for her own political ends.

This kind of nonsense just deepens the divide. I hope they shut her the hell down at the pageant and she doesn't make it past the first round.

Our political and media elites in Finland are very much into multi-culturalism. They sort of go over board with it, so they do stuff like this for self congratulatory reasons: ”Oh look at us, how tolerant we are! Unlike those regular Finnish smucks!”

It's what the French sociologist Bourdieu observed about upper classes: They have this need for distinction; They wish to show they are different from the the regular unwashed masses. Our upper class does this by vigorously supporting multi-culturalism. "We are more morally superior than those regular people! We are so above racism." So at times the whole thing has humorous side effects. It kinda looks really weird and it only makes people raise their eyebrows.
