unless its being a doctor lawyer certified public accountant engineer or other career that requires a degree then college is wasting time life energy and money

Get a job first, and then get whatever degree you need to advance in your field. You never know when the economy is going to go to shit, and recent grads with no experience and no money have to live with their parents for some extra years.

Anything except Math, Hard Science, Engineering and IT (don't get a garbage education there!). Economics degrees are very much overrated. You can teach yourself about languages, history, politics and other stuff yourself (there is lots of material) if it interests you.

Don't study STEM. Study social sciences, more useful in understanding human behaviours.

None of the work we do now are gonna be around in a few decades anyway, and we will see a massive surge in unemployment of high educated workers.

You think software engineering is an exception? I've talked about this before. Most of what newly educated Java programmers do is what is called "ritual". You have to set up a lot of things before you even get to work and this is the same no matter what problem you're solving. It only takes one guy to come up with a simpler/automated way to do things and all of these get unemployed. We educate our engineers to write getters and setters and follow "factory patterns" instead of innovating.

People treat academia totally wrong these days. It's not a slaves'r'us to get cheap shapable labour for your corporation.

Part of it has to do with the quality of the school. An English or History degree from Harvard will get you farther than an engineering degree from ShitStain U.

Some of the worst colleges are the mediocre private ones. They're not bad, but they are nearly as expensive as top tier private colleges without the benefits.

Best bang for your buck though is an engineering degree from a large state school (assuming you're in state) like Ohio State or Texas A&M. You get a relatively cheap education and great opportunities on graduation from your school's extensive alumni base.
