People are dumb and pay it. They charge what people will pay. We inflict suffering upon ourselves and each other by voting like cretins with our money. I say 'we' and 'our' because we are all culpable or have been culpable on some way. We are human, we make mistakes, we shit on other people's chests intentionally or unintentionally, and we move on. Some of us self reflect, hold ourselves accountable and try to improve our behavior. Because businesses will charge what the market will bear. And since as a society we've lost sight of the historical function of marriage, and instead treat the wedding as an opportunity to irresponsibly use money that could go towards home ownership or a college fund for future progeny, it has become normal to spend lavishly on all sorts of ceremonial frivolity. Meanwhile, since we've also embraced the notion that it is the woman's day and that her happiness is paramount (pragmatism be damned), then overpaying for a dress among many frivolities becomes very easy to justify. And so people are relatively insensitive to wedding dress prices, allowing for their massive inflation of price.

My female friend works in a wedding dress shop. She says 99% of the bitches show up drunk and out of control, demanding the most expensive shit. Of course, some dumb putz is paying for it. Quality sucks, it only will be worn once. They buy back over half the dresses they sell, for a 500% markup lol..total fucking racket just like wedding rings and caskets.
