I lived at a popular vacation spot for a summer. I shared an apartment with a good friend and we quickly made friends with other guys similar to us. We'd pick up girls(sometimes they picked us up) who were on vacation for a weekend or a week. Groups of girls vacationing together encourage each others' bad behavior because "away from home/YOLO/Who's going to know". This was back in the early 90s. More than half the girls admitted they had boyfriends back at home. The group of guys my friend and I befriended all agreed to "mark" any girl that said she had a boyfriend that cheated with one of us. We'd leave several hickeys in visible and not so visible spots just before they left so their boyfriend would see it. Many of the girls were fine with being passed around...Like I'd hook up with Jill for a couple nights then she'd hook up with my friend John for a couple nights while her friend Alice hooked up with me during that time. Distance and large bodies of water and girls spread for any guy with reasonably good looks that buys her drinks and feeds her vanity and ego. The first time I heard someone say that if you are "x" miles apart or in different states its not cheating was from a girl .

I was a gym rat back then and the gym I lifted at while living at this popular vacation spot was right next to a concentration of bars and clubs. The gym was open 24/7. We literally would lift after midnight and girls leaving the clubs and bars would walk into the gym and ask us to take them home, individuals or in groups.

Remember back when they were STDs

Before that they were called "VD"... or just "the clap" etc. And before that...

when did it become not PC to call a disease a disease, as if infection is less shameful or something?

Medical "jargon" is constantly changing -- it loves to (basically HAS to in order to maintain a combination of obfuscation as well as an "air" of authority, and quasi-pseudo-scientific specificity) try to stay ahead of "common language" which of course itself loves to adopt these new "euphemisms" that can conveniently (at least for a while) shed some of the negative connotations of the previous terminology.

There is (of course) a somewhat dubiously pretentious "rationale" for the changes. STI "infection" rather than STD "disease" is ostensibly to make the term broader, since not everyone who is "infected" necessarily manifests with the obvious symptoms of the "disease" (i.e. ostensibly this is to reduce confusion: "How can you say that I have a "disease" when I don't have any problems yet. Oh you mean I've been "infected" with something, but don't have the "disease" well that's different/better, right?" -- but others would say it just ADDS to the confusion {and still others will say THAT is the entire point, since "confusion = mystery" and "mystery = money+status" for doctors}.)

Likewise the (rather equally dubious) change from "Venereal Disease" (aka the disease of "Venus" goddess of Love) to "Sexually Transmitted Disease" was ostensibly done so that people would understand it had nothing to do with "love" but rather had to do with "sexual contact" -- though others would argue that this actually ADDED to confusion, since "sex" to many people meant "vaginal penetration" (aka full "coitus") whereas the older "Venereal" being less scientific sounding & specific also included "romantic/intimate contact" (which was and is really more "correct" -- many infections/diseases that fall under the VD/STD/STI label can be transmitted with your clothes still on, and far short of any full "penetration" sexual act).
