Wanted to share a quote from User-31f64a4e that he made on another post in this subreddit:
“From the Buddhist point of view, the point is not transcendence, but rather immanence. The point isn't to flee reality, but rather to develop the ability to see it clearly and be with it completely.
The Tibetan word for mindfulness/awareness meditation is gom, with means to become familiar with. The point is to learn all the little automatic, programmed ways your mind acts. Getting familiar with these lets you be less of a robot, and to act more from a point of choice. Responding, instead of reacting, to your environment.
Stripping away automatic, programmed behaviors will leave a gap in purpose. Your preprogrammed motivations have been stripped away. What do? The classic Buddhist answer is compassion - to focus on making other people happy. There's a twist though, which they speak of as "the root of happiness." It's less about indulging the desires of others, and more about waking them up as well.”
This sounds awfully similar to the MGTOW concept of rejecting autopilot. Forces like the biological imperative, after all, leave us vulnerable to manipulation. The best way to combat it, therefore, is with a concerted effort to use our rationality to override these drives. Buddhism's tenants of non-attachment seem promising but I am not too familiar with it, is there compatibility with MGTOW here and what would 'waking them up as well' entail?
