3 years in, I brought it up again (I was almost 25 and was starting to feel like it was a topic to bring up more seriously). He said there was no point to it and accused me of just wanting to "own" half his stuff and that I was looking for an excuse to be "lazy at home" (I made some comments about wanting to have a garden/small farm with sheep) despite the fact that I actually graduated college and have a more financially secure career. I initiated taking a break to work through this, and he fully broke up with me. I begged him to take me back after a month or two, and he did. For the next year, I silently worked my hardest to convince myself that marriage was pointless, and that he'd always love me. We would occasionally have blow outs where he'd logically go through all the reasons marriage is outdated and unnecessary, but it continued to tear me up inside as I told my heart to shut up and tolerated it. I remember crying myself to sleep on multiple nights because I was so attached and yet he wouldn't marry me.

What I couldn't get over was that, even if he didn't personally believe in marriage, why wouldn't he just go through with it without putting up a fight for me? If he loved me so much, why couldn't he just put his ~logic~ aside to do something that is in my best interests emotionally, financially, etc? Isn't that what love is? Yes it's a risk, but that's kinda the point.

During those last two years, I ended up meeting someone that I slowly built up feelings towards. You could say that I used this other person as a surrogate for my feelings, because I felt myself getting more and more detached from the 5-year guy (of course, he thought everything was just peachy because we stopped fighting about marriage, but it's because I stopped caring). I ended up cheating with the hot alpha guy, and broke up with my bf 2 days later. We continued living together though, and I feel awful now when I think about how my live-in ex would watch me get dolled up to go hookup with this new guy while he begged me to stay. I think sub-consciously, I did it to ruin our relationship to the point where we wouldn't be able to fix it even if I wanted to. I had years of resentment built up, and now that I was finally strong enough to not be in love with him anymore, I just did not care and did whatever the hell I wanted.

Note several things:

It is HER "bringing it up (again)".
The reason she is bringing it up (again) is that she is getting OLDER.
Ergo she is realizing that her chances of finding something better (i.e. chiefly someone richer -- note how she slips in the bit about HER SUPERIORITY: "I actually graduated college and have a more financially secure career" -- which BTW is bullshit).
SHE is the one who "initiated taking a break" (and what she almost certainly isn't mentioning is that she went "hunting" for something better {someone richer, higher status, etc}... and that moreover, that she flat-out FAILED, i.e. found out her SMV had deteriorated).
So... she did everything she could (including "begging") to get back into what she had previously (i.e. hypergamy failure... default to the backup plan).
She notes the "risk" -- which BTW even she perceives was virtually entirely on HIS part, she didn't perceive herself as "risking" anything -- (which he had already delineated -- his "logic" was SOUND).
She then proved that she really WASN'T "marriage material", because once she was back in her semi-secure "nest", she immediately sought out (in her own words) some "alpha" cock to "hookup" with. (And never mind that she is thus putting her "SO" at risk of disease, etc.)
And almost IMMEDIATELY -- once she felt she had found something "better" (that "hot alpha" -- her term -- which by contrast means she DIDN'T think of her previous BF as either "hot" or an "alpha")... well, she instantly ditched him in terms of commitment (while still cohabiting... reaping the financial benefits of that, w/o the compensation that was part of the unwritten agreement, etc).
Moreover, she notes that she got to the point (apparently relatively easily) to do "whatever the hell" she wanted... regardless of consequences, risks, etc.

Basically HAD he actually married her, the story still would have unfolded in the same way -- with one important difference -- she would also have half of HIS stuff (via divorce, once she met the "hot alpha").

And THAT I would posit is what really pisses her off -- is that she failed to actually get what she felt she "deserved" in terms of financial compensation for being his "whore" for 5 years -- while simultaneously of course, be a whore for other men and giving it away/selling access dirt-cheap in regard to them.

Now that she has (apparently) found a "better" (i.e. richer) sugar daddy... she is no longer interested in him.

Out of curiosity, how did you come across this? Are you subscribed to that sub?
