Two possible reasons come to my mind.

Projection. People can't wrap their heads around the fact that not everyone wants the same things in life. If I want marriage and kids, everyone else must want it, too.
Ego protection. If it's "inevitable" for everyone, then they're not responsible for lost opportunities or missing out on the road not taken.

Deep down men want to be loved and women know all the tricks to convince them they are, even unconditional love which we all know here is impossible for women to have towards men. So this narrative comes from both sexes and really should be expected because it's an extension of the drive and mechanism to reproduce. Of course being the outside observers we are, we can see through the bullshit but we're aware of our own nature too. Even a MGTOW can give it all up for the "right" woman.

Female solipsism. "I could never be alone forever so nobody can."

Women just aren't capable of being alone. They need constant external validation in order to be able to define themselves.

Furthermore things "just happen" to them. It's no coincidence that the single best way to counter LMR is to give them reasons for plausible deniability in order to enable them to tell themselves that it "just happened".

Also Hard work and dedication in order to get something in the distant future and delayed gratification are alien concepts to the majority of women, because things usualy "just happen" to them.

Women are also still the little princess inside who is waiting for her prince to come and take her to a better life, and again their solipsism makes them think that you'd wait for the same, just with reversed roles.

They cannot grasp the idea of being so disillusioned and grounded in reality, that you simply know that there is no fucking princess out there.

Societal programming. Both men and women are programmed to think of life in certain terms. Most just go along with it unless there is strong motivation to break the habit, such as in the case for men at this time. Think about it; why are you MGTOW? Because something happened that didn't quite feel right to you, and it's persistently not felt right ever since, right?

Society so heavily favors women at this time, however, that most women won't have the motivation to wake up.

Just brush it off; folks usually don't mean any harm by it and it's largely irrelevant anyway.

One time I was at a restaurant and the topic of relationships came up. I said that I never wanted to marry, and cited that marriage presented little to no benefits for me, and that the risk of divorce rape was very high. My friend told me "you say that, but you'll change your mind, you'll fall in love" etc. Apparently the arguments I put forth weren't strong enough for him he said "So you just don't wanna get married mainly because of the risk of being divorced?" I had presented other arguments, but this was my main one. It's funny because I actually talked about this with a South Korean woman (who are very hypergamous) and she actually agreed with me that marriage was a bad deal (for men at least).

A smart man would look at that and say "even if marriage was all glitz and glammer (which it's not) a 50% risk of being owned like that is not worth it". He was definitely a nice guy, and a good mate, but a big simp. He would treat men one way, and treat women another. Being very blunt with men, but licking ass and grubbing up to women, classic nice guy stuff. He said "well that's how I have been raised to treat women". It had always struck a chord with me when I saw a guy be almost schizophrenic in the ways the deal with men and women respectively.

The age old conflict between "mysticism" vs "reason" -- the battle between "predestination" and "free will" -- random chance versus planning & diligent work.

Both views DO in fact have a basis in reality.

The farmer can plant his field, even irrigate it, cultivate/weed it, etc -- but the actual yield that results will also be governed by the random vagaries of the weather: if there is a drought or flood, his efforts will likely be brought to naught.

Or per example the saying that we can choose our friends, but not our family; although in reality... even the former isn't entirely true: there is a rather large random component in that our "choices" of friends are in fact only from among the people that we rather randomly encounter, or who come into our lives from outside.

On the other hand, to give way to that "fatalistic/deterministic" viewpoint -- the whole "destiny" schpiel -- is often just a form of justifying/rationalizing away any "personal responsibility". After all, there's really NOT much difference between "God Wills It!" and "The Devil Made Me Do It!" or the more vague "It was Destined/Fated to happen." -- all of them are essentially negating one's own agency, entirely dismissing the personal CHOICE element.

So ultimately "where it comes from" is out of our imagination -- we seek to come up with SOME explanation for WHY things happen -- whether good OR bad OR even some mixture of the two. And then we often look for things that will confirm our preferred theory; whether it be the "fatalistic" version or the "choice" version.

Reality is probably somewhere in between.

I would guess it is a product of instinct coupled with socialization. Most people get lonely and long for a loving partner, they see movies and books and magazines, etc, that proclaim that they get married and then "live happily ever after", they then added 2 and 2 together and bam "destiny".

Scientific reality is most men don't reproduce, and from surveys most people that do breed still don't "live happily ever after". Its a false goal set up by nature and socialization to get you to bred and slave away.
