The popular definition of feminism as an equal rights movement is merely a consequence of public perception and feminist machinations to reinforce that public perception through educational literature like dictionaries. Dictionary definitions are not necessarily reflective in any way of reality.

Feminism today promotes inequality, and the moment you disagree with their stances they quickly revert to you being against the 1920s feminist beliefs.

Feminists either know their movement is full of shit or the shark has been jumped so hard that hysteria is as contagious as a smallpox blanket. You have the media and the left-thinking political stance on the side of feminism, whether it is earnest or just taking advantage of hivemind mentality.

I will share you my hypothesis based on what I have experienced on college campuses, speaking with modern and 2nd wave feminists, and gathered knowledge from the web.

Feminism:

the theory of the political, economic, and social equality of the sexes

organized activity on behalf of women's rights and interests

This definition has a fallacy in the sense that any other "-ism" (Marxism, nationalism, communism, capitalism) defines a legitimate social structure. Feminism's "-ism" is an exception, because it theorizes equality for the sexes yet in the name of women's interests and perspectives. Communism was "organized activity" by actual governments and societies, whereas feminism is practiced by factions of peoples not an entire governing body. Your country can practice capitalism but it can't truly practice feminism in that same sense.

So, already we see the hypocrisy of feminism as we know it. The way it is defined is technically incorrect off the bat IMO.

1st wave feminism fought for women's suffrage. After black slaves were emancipated and black men had the right to vote, women finally had had enough and protested for the right to have a say in the political arena. Women, the sex who never had to volunteer/ be drafted for war, tended the home, had little involvement in union and work strikes (and weren't attacked at the same rate as men when striking), worked primarily in a factory, office or field setting outside of the home (safest jobs at the time) wanted their voices to be heard. What did they do with that power? Pressure men into fighting perhaps the most futile and atrocious war ever fought, championed the disaster known as Prohibition, and started the trend of voting pro-daddy government that is so prevalent in women today. Also, the roaring 20s rivaled the 1960s in terms of slutting up the joint. Women had some kick ass privileges back then and still wanted more power to be like men, aka the humans actually building societies. You could argue that women were abused by husbands and lovers but who really knows if the men were legitimate slimes or the women were being cunts that needed a chin check.
2nd wave feminism. The 1960s were the peak of the American middle class and the time where the U.S. flexed its influential muscles to world in the space race and booming industries. Women saw inventions like the microwave, washing machine, efficient vacuum cleaners, the pill, and civil rights. Well, at least the mothers did. Their daughters? Burning their bras and singing kumbaya with their hippie buddies on a lawn somewhere. In another instance where women fought for more power followed by an extreme bout of promiscuity 2nd wave feminism fought for women to break free of their roles in the home and become career-driven individuals, while demanding better athletic support for younger girls in school and college. Civil Rights bills get passed, JFK is killed, no fault divorces, LBJ increases Vietnam efforts (another charlie foxtrot conflict that women did little to help besides protest it), Nixon passes Title IX (1970s), and the Summer of Love happens in 1969. Women "liberate" themselves by fucking dudes and other women at muddy concerts and dirty VW Buses across the country. Gay rights advocacy becomes rapant, STDs skyrocket, and the baby boomer generation tails off with a thud in morality. Again, women had technology making their home easier than ever, with even enough time in the day to work part time and acquire their own money while the kids were at school, but it wasn't enough. They wanted the choice to be independent, promiscuous, and free to be a career woman, free of patriarchal pressure. The funny thing is, nothing was really stopping them before this (besides the whore part), its just that when the men came back after the war, women and men alike wasted no time started giant nuclear families. The daughters were upset that mommy decided to have 5 kids and raise them instead of go to Woodstock and take LSD for 4 days straight.
3rd wave/modern feminism. Essentially, this version is where the no true scotsman fallacy applies. Some feminists will say that they are for equality across all sexes, yet their brand remains rooted in feminine agenda. Either they are bat shit crazy witch hunters who claim oppression or they are realistically more egalitarian. Now, I'm assuming you're more aware of current feminism so I won't get into it much. However, just as the other waves issued a period of "sexual liberation," modern feminism takes a 130 degree turn and claims rape culture as a way to be slutty with punishment going to men rather than feeling slutty, while claiming men are raping at alarming rates. Not only this, but they, along with liberals, are encouraging mass Muslim immigration. The very culture that blatantly treats women as 2nd class citizens may be coming to the U.S. in larger numbers than what is already present, but overwhelmingly the majority demographic being single, young, male, Sharia Law abiding men. Fucked up right?
But how does this relate to hypocrisy in regards to MRAs? Tie my conclusions together and you'll notice a pattern that increasingly gets more extreme in contradiction. Every time feminism sees a wave, their reasoning is about more oppression that only women can experience, and demanding more responsibilities despite their privileges. In fact, they want all of the privileges men have with no consequence and no trading of their own privileges. They don't want equality; they want to be equal to men in male privilege without the negatives. They want to fight wars, but without the physical qualifications. They want equal pay, without doing the work. They don't want a man, but they want Daddy Government to fund the consequences to their poor choices.

- MRAs don't want equality the same way feminism wants equality. Men don't need their (female) privilege; men have thrived this long without it, why have obtain it when life has never been easier? Besides, we know logically speaking, that female privilege would make us weak, entitled, and complacent; those traits do not advance society. Furthermore, we are already seeing how feminized men impact society without the benefits of being a women and it sucks. MRAs oppose feminist dogma and try to bring light the statistical facts of male plight in society. IE: "You say white men have it the easiest due to racism and sexism? How come white men kill themselves more than any other demographic then? You say men in general don't experience rape compared to a woman's level? How come more men are raped each year than women? How can you be for equality when men get fisted in divorce court?"
- Feminism views MRAs/masculists as dissenters. They only know how to silence the infidels with playing the victim card. Advocating male rights to them is to victim blame, be misogynist, or refuse to care about women's rights. Feminism as we know it relies on people to abide by their agenda with unwavering loyalty and no questions asked. Advocating for men's rights takes the rug from under their feet as it is believed to be feminism's job to destroy the patriarchy, not masculism's.
Now, I have 2 lesbian aunts who are veterans of the 2nd wave feminist movement. They acknowledge men have it hard too, but because we don't share our feelz enough and that its other men that force this behavior.
Feminism gets away with its backhanded ignorance because no one opposes it anymore. The people that are viewed as opposition are labeled and put into a box by the hysterics. The mob mentality is a necessity for feminism.
Even if a glass ceiling doesn't actually exist, feminism will find a way to create the image of one, because its purpose as a movement is void without a glass ceiling to smash.

In conclusion, feminism is hypocritical because it cannot retain relevance without it. As long as it can paint a terrible enough scenario for any woman, it will be powerful. Even anecdotal evidence is enough to fear-monger and create a disturbance. Make people upset enough about a certain idea, and the fallacies that come along with it will be minuscule in comparison to the point where people don't even notice them. Its how women and men were hanged for being witches, how Jews were gassed for having blame, how Russians were killed for daring to question Stalin, and now how men are shamed for being a man, for being masculine, and for treating women based on merit and not by default.

It's not about equality...in fact, it never was. It's about controlling the narrative, and when you can do that you can assign definitions as you please and don't even have to be consistent.

Feminism /is/ about equality. Just not in the sense that you expect. Rather that promoting equality of access or opportunity, or equality under the law - feminism's approach to equality is a little different. It's the goal of feminism to change the definition of equality so that in law, equality means what you now correctly define as inequality. The term they use is "substantive equality" and without going into a lengthy exposition here - it is what you would call legally enforced inequality, favoring women. That's the equality they're about - and when they say "feminism is about equality" they are deadly serious.
