That's more than any hunter I know would do. My husband's family runs cattle and the men and women all hunt. It's not my thing, but if I had a moral objection to it, he'd have hard nexted me. Meat is literally the family business. He doesn't show me pictures he knows would upset me or talk about it in graphic detail, but that's the trade off for the dead deer on my wall.

My issue is really, do/how should I approach this with my bf? He’s already told me a few months ago that this subject is off limits as we will never agree. That’s fair enough. And I know he has no control over what his friend says. I’m not stupid.

If you feel like this is something you can get past, for the sake of the relationship, that means getting past it, including the occasional comment that you don't love. If it becomes a regular thing, mention it, but this sounds like something your boyfriend is really into and he's already going to extreme lengths to shelter you and your children from it, something most people in his place probably wouldn't do. Be grateful and leave this alone. If that's not doable, I think you seriously need to reconsider whether or not you can handle this difference of worldviews. It's okay if you can't, but it would be easier for everyone involved to admit that now.

I think you should be able to fully accept someone, or it limits your intimacy. You can't just ignore part of who someone is, and how they think.

I'd have a very open an honest discussion about it with him, and then with your kids as well. Otherwise you run the risk of setting a precedent of having secrets and topics that are "too taboo" within your family. Also your kids not fully understanding who this man is.

Are you ok if one of your kids ends up liking hunting after being exposed? If not, I'd REALLY question if this is the right man for you and your family. I'd personally hate to have a family i couldn't be open and honest with.

Red pill is ultimately about understanding some uncomfortable truths about life, and confronting them head on.

If you're going to be with this man and you care about this man you should respect his choices. It seems to me like you're trying to control from left and right. You'll have to either let it go or let him go. If this is the only issue then I highly suggest you just let it go. It has to be an internal thing though. You can't just "keep your mouth shut". You have to keep your mind shut too. Stop thinking about it. Stop focusing on it. He has his own free will. Please don't make yourself miserable and try to interrupt that.

Hmm. Your bf seems really considerate. I was a vegetarian for a decade, starting when I was a teen. I think a lot of people, myself included, crave this safe, sanitized reality. Elevating animals and drafting a easy moral binary of killing bad/soy good isn’t going to help anyone cope with the nasty realities of life and death on Earth. I have also noticed that people who don’t work out in a garden, farm, or do any intense backpacking have this cartoonish view of animals as being these cute little angels that evil humans victimize. Life is very, very complicated. I would advise looking into how food and land is cultivated to support YOUR habitat—your home and diet. Mice, bugs, and other plants are killed to make way for pea, soy, and rapeseed crops that vegetarians are so dependent on—I would challenge your arbitrary hierarchy of valued and celebrated life. Shooting a deer and eating it is so low impact, it’s hilarious in comparison.

Here's your answer. You have to decide first whether it's acceptable to you and then you will need to be completely honest with yourself and put your feelings into words to share with your kids. Your guidance here will be important for them.

I would also do some thinking about why you've been ignoring the answer he gave you for so long. Not that I haven't done the same. Which may be why it sticks out to me so much. :)

Thanks so much everybody. You’ve really helped me put it into a bit more perspective and you’ve made me realise just how far he goes to shelter me from this. I wasn’t expecting such kind and thoughtful answers :)

I am aware that this big difference between us may be an issue, and I did struggle with it a lot at first. My general thought was that I would see how it goes in September, when shooting starts again, but really, I don’t think it would be enough to leave this man. We really do adore one another, and otherwise fit each other perfectly.

I have mentioned what Kevin said, to my bf, and he just smiled at me and said ‘I’m surprised that Kevin said that, and I can’t imagine him saying it in front of (son) and I’m sorry about it, but theres not really a lot that I can do about it.’ Which is obviously completely true and understandable, so we left it there.
