I’m currently in a serious and loving relationship with my bf from high school (my first relationship) and we’re both about to finish our freshman year at college (long distance). With everything happening right now, I’ve had a lot of time to think.

I battled an eating disorder a couple years ago and while I’m physically healthy right now, mentally I still struggle with insecurities. There are times where I don’t feel beautiful, feel insecure about my body so I get anxious about doing anything sexual, and every so often I’ll think about how he might be better off with some other girl or that he wants to be with other, prettier and overall better people. He always compliments me and tries to lift me up, but I just can’t get myself to believe his words. I struggle with my self esteem and feeling worthy enough, and I feel like that makes me question whether or not I should be in a relationship.

I guess I’m looking for any advice women have on staying together with their first love/battling insecurities in relationships and whether or not I need time by myself to grow confidence or if breaking up with him would make everything worse for me. Should women learn to love themselves before committing to someone else?
