I don’t continue talking to men who don’t do anything for me conversationally... that sounds like absolute torture.

When I look at my text conversation with men, it should always be more from him and less from me. If you're sending monologues and they're giving two word responses, you should either match their tone (if you're interested), or move on. Try sending short responses for a change.

I briefly dated a guy that would only talk about work or his friends. That's it. He found me quite interesting because i knew about a lot of different subjects, topics, and current events. I taught him about a bunch of stuff he never knew about (but I thought was pretty common?) and he always complimented me on how knowledgeable I was. The last time I ever saw him, I stopped carrying the conversation, and an uncomfortable silence fell between us. It was so sad to see he wasn't intellectually stimulating enough for my liking. This is something that's super important to me.

yes, and I also watch the conversation for red flags. Recent example: did he totally forget a fairly involved story i told him just a week ago when at the time he was responding and all into it, to all appearances an engaged listener? boy bye. i’ve dated enough men who don’t listen

Finding an intellectually compatible match is literally my biggest barrier at the moment. After basic looks compatibility, then lifestyle/ ambition (I won’t date down) - intellectual excitement is the next priority. A lot of intelligent men still don’t fulfil this simply because they are not interested in pursuing intellectual stimulation, they would be perfectly capable but they lack the curiosity and willingness to actively think about things.

I can entertain myself with books, podcasts, and other edifying experiences just fine, I don’t need to talk to a brick wall.
