I was at a show tonight and I was talking to people. I saw a young dude that looked just like a regular that comes into my work. So I asked him if he comes in to my job and I tell him that he looks like a regular. It was pretty loud in there, so it took a lot of yelling and closeness to even have a conversation.

He asks, “Is that guy as good looking as me?” I answer, “Haha sure!” Because I could clearly see he was kidding. I got my answer that it wasn’t that regular, but hey we had a good chuckle.

But I guess my positive answer was flirtatious(???). I wasn’t going to call him ugly and make things awkward. He says, “I’m taken. I have a girlfriend.” I respond, “I do, too haha.”

It is awkward and it makes me cringe that he thought I was hitting on him. But now I’m cringing for him for misreading me. Did I do anything wrong just asking him if I served him before? Did any of my body language indicate that I would like to sleep with him? I just wanted to headbang and shove people.

I’ve had issues in the past of guys getting the wrong idea if I’m nice to them or if I even say hi to them. It’s such a pet peeve that it’s instinct to immediately assume a girl is interested just by existing. It always ends with that awkward walk away where you are wondering if you lead them on even though you completely knew your intentions were the opposite.
