I still need to read the books recommended, but I’ve been watching the group for a couple weeks now.

Story time!

I’m working a temp job and people keep dropping and new people keep coming in. Two nights ago a guy I can only describe as pretty comes in and as we’re waiting for the shift to start, the first thing he says to anyone was ‘I like your glasses’. Pretty Guy has sweet soulful eyes and I’m a recovering flirtaholic. So the best I can do is to just say thanks. The work is nothing big - just resetting a retail sales floor. But it can get overwhelming and confusing if you can’t see the end result in your head. Pretty Guy and I get placed together almost immediately and we start talking. He’s a rare kind of nerdy/cool that I was ADDICTED TO in my 20’s. Quickly, the conversation shows that he’s interested in getting to know me. This is the change. Sure, get to know me. Find out where I’m from (it’s not like I moved) and what local hangouts are (I have no clue, I’m nearly 40 but a friend of mine likes the bar/brewery over on Main) but he’s got to make every last move. If numbers are exchanged, he has to ask... it’s only been a handful of days anyway. But last night a group of us were sitting outside and he starts texting furiously after checking his phone. He’d already mentioned he had a son, but no word on where the mom was. Turns out it was one of two ex’s 🙄 one is still his actual legal wife and he’s raising both kids. I’m out. He’s a great work buddy because I don’t have to explain everything 6 times, but that’s IT. He called both of his children’s mothers crazy, has no car (walking to work to save money was his original story) and apparently collects women. Thank GOD I waited a half a second and have developed a resistance to puppy dog eyes.
