In Quebec, common law spouses aren't a thing. Other than some parts of Montreal and having to pay some extra taxes, the province is surprisingly nice. On a road trip to the lac St-Jean area, I saw some beautiful places where I wouldn't mind retiring.

Common law spouses are not a federal thing, though. That's something in the jurisdiction of the provinces. And Quebec voted against this. The argument was that if people wanted to be treated as if they were married, they would have gotten married. So they're just not a thing there.

Don't know lads, just visited the original post, and it could hint to some kind of mental disorder. Like yeah, my first impression was about someone trying to get another wedding of some sort, but it could also regard some profound irregularities. Like, I've been lurking around here for quite some time, and although I agree with most of the stuff around here, life's whatever one wants to be, and a true relationship does seem quite tempting. On the other hand, I've just enrolled into college, and my next decade will represent just capital growth only, as a relation can be constructed in a matter of months. Don't know though, still very much a child, and I'm open for critique :p

This story is so strange I would agree mental illness is on the table. The removal of the ring makes me think its less a lapse of memory or mental illness though, that's some covert, rationalized decision making. In the thread a lot of people were going with memory lapses from early dementia or a gas leak/ hit to the head. Early Dementia is like 50s not 30s, not that's not possible, but early dementia is already uncommon at 50, at 33 it's possible but very very unlikely. Again as far as brain damage causing a change in behavior goes, I would expect her to be frustrated and angry when people are reminding her of things she "doesn't remember," rather than calmly trying to wave it away and getting sad that people aren't playing along.
I think it's much more likely it's a personal issue she's trying to resolve. What we know around here is that it's most likely motivated by her waning desire for her husband and wanting someone new, and if it's simply reminding her that she is old/getting older it's probably going to go in that direction sooner or later. When you hear hoofbeats, think horses, not zebras.

Thanks for a really elaborate answer. After a more thorough analysis the hypotesis of a mental disorder does indeed seem slimmer, guess I just went with the benefit of the doubt a bit too far. I don't know, the initial impression of someone going to such ridiculous lenghts, fully aware of this, for what seemed at first glance as wanting another wedding for reasons seemed so far fetched that anything else would be more probable. But I guess it just goes to show just how much I still have to learn about humab behavior as a whole

Despite both being as controllable as each other (actually NPD is far less treatable than depression). As long as people are going to pick and choose which mental disorders deserve sympathy and which make you the epitome of evil I refuse to have sympathy for any of them. Either mental disorders all suck, and need working on and the sufferers should be sympathize with or none of them do.
