Hey AskTRP,

Looking for some advice on how to advance my career. Graduated 2018 with a degree very similar to Mechanical Engineering, worked for 3 months at a small firm doing HVAC-related installs but the owner was losing money and my cheques started bouncing. Moved back home (not living at home tho) and have done serving and construction jobs.

I just got laid off (COVID ofc), really looking to get back into the engineering game. Haven't had a ton of luck applying online to places and my city isn't big enough/getting hit hard by COVID (oilfield town).

Not exactly sure what to do, kinda feel trapped. My resume doesn't seem to be attractive enough/my experience in a technical design/project management role is limited.

I've considered trying to pivot to software but it does seem intimidating tbh, despite enjoying the college classes and doing some small VBA projects for previous employers.

My goal is literally just a decent job that is somewhat engaging/isn't physical labour.

Would honestly even consider just apprenticing as an instrument tech or something at this point, I really need to move forward in life.

Any recommendations? Thoughts?

Will pm you my resume/cover letter if some career-experienced users would be willing to peek.

Thanks gentlemen, enjoy your evening
