Been on a dilemma about this a for long time now and still not sure what to do.

My dad owns an import/export company here in south Texas. Move loads from Mexico and ship them out to all parts of the U.S. My parents make some good money. They used to be very poor actually when I was baby. But my dad has been able to be a success. Now we live in the north side of the city. Two story house. Leasing a G-Wagon, Masaratti, a big ass Toyota Truck, plus my car and my sisters car. Only my car, Nissan Maxima, is the only one paid off. We got a swimming pool. And outdoor bar that make a BBQ with our friends.

What I’m trying to get to is, we’re kind of rich.

I’m 22 years old. I’m expected to be the son who takes over the family business, I get lectured about this a lot.

However...

I just don’t know how I feel about inheriting a highly profitable business just like that without working for it. I feel like if I do I’d have no sense of independence and feel like a spoiled child.

As of now, I’m majoring in accounting. I have one more semester left ! 4 more classes til I get my bachelors. My this December if I’m smart enough I’ll will have graduated.

I have this urge to use this bachelors degree and find a decent paying job. Like I said I live in a small city in south Texas. I envision myself buying a decent apartment and finding a decent job somewhere in Houston or San Antonio. You know live independently, learn to rely on myself. Get a sense having accomplished at least something by myself.

I already feel guilty having been raised in a upper middle class family. I feel like I’ve never suffered even a little bit in life... financial wise I mean. Just suffered typical shit us weaker men, e.g childhood bullying or something. But not any actual hardships. I’d feel like shit about myself if I go through life knowing I worked for nothing at all and deserved none of it.

What would you do?
