While it's your right as mod to delete, I disagree.
A useful and faith based video can add value to the community without an essay supporting it. The value comes from hearing the dude explain his thoughts and arguments in detail over 30 minutes along with the prayer and scriptures. While a 5 sentence summary might make me look less lazy, it won't accomplish anything for the people who are hoping to actually gain new insight, beyond hopefully convincing them to watch the video.
The preacher is the one who knows what he's talking about, not me. I merely came across it, recognized the value, and wanted to share it with others who could appreciate and benefit.
Well thank you for the explanation man. It makes sense and I can see the appeal of that approach. My only recommendation at this point is to add those rules to the sidebar as a preventative. I did read the rules before posting, and had I seen these beforehand I either wouldn’t have posted, written an explanation before posting, or not questioned the deletion.
At this point I’m gonna hold off and just write something else down the line about my own struggle and victory with porn. I’m not too worried about the video I just DMed it to the dude who was asking for help.
Appreciate both your responses (and the other mod who was talking to me). Again, not coming from rebellion but actual curiosity what the problem was, so thank you for explaining.
Please understand I'm not being argumentative for the sake of it... This is a community I'd like to get more involved with as it definitely aligns with my goals and lifestyle.
Is this a rule just for the sake of being a rule, or do you actually believe a short summary will provide value to readers beyond the content they would receive in the video? The gist of his message is all very common sense stuff... remove triggers, confess to God, get accountability, etc. I don't see any value in that at all, unless I were to write a several paragraph synopsis, at which point why even link the video?
Or is the rule to only provide my own thoughts but not link outside sources regardless of their quality? Because I do see lots of other 1-2 sentence posts floating around that generate good discussion.
