I had an ex coworker who was a conservative Muslim and didn’t allow his wife to work. She wore a hijab and he put his daughter who was under 10 in one. I’m mentioning this because I think it’s hypocritical based on what I am saying here. I respect different cultures and beliefs and know not all Muslim men are this way. Anyways, I remember we had customers and he commented on a couple, saying how the woman is beautiful and said things about her appearance in another language. There were times when he told me what nail colors looks good on me, that I shouldn’t wear this color and I should wear that. WTF. I never asked you, dude. He’d comment on my clothes too. I find it weird that someone from such a conservative culture who expects his wife to dress in loose and modest clothing and cover her head notices my appearance like that and feels the need to consult on my nails. I find this highly inappropriate. Sometimes he would sit next to me to chat like I’m there to entertain him with my feminine energy and that’s my role as a woman on earth.
I had male customers come in to do something in their account and when I offer a drink they think it’s an invitation to sit for 15 minutes so I can entertain them. Im just providing good customer service, dipshit. I am a person who likes their space and I don’t get chummy at all with male coworkers because a lot of the time they mistake friendliness for you liking them (delusional and thirsty). I keep my distance unless I know he’s NORMAL and won’t do that. I’ve had married guys try to get my number with their wives out in the parking lot while I was in the office with them. They think being friendly is an invitation. This brings up another issue where if I am doing my customer service thing where I smile and am friendly they think I am ready to jump into bed with them (I noticed this with guys from other cultures who have ideas of dating and women in the USA based off television shows).
Because I dress modestly and don’t drink or really date, I’ve had Muslim guys tell me I’m like a Muslim girl. I find it funny, because they have this idea all western girls drink and go to clubs and sleep with strangers (they told me). I know a lot of women who don’t do any of that and are not religious or anything. There were times were I felt like he and other employees or customers who came in expected me to sort if just smile and entertain them as if I am some sort of hostess.
The other thing that bugs me is when guys will say they hate fake eyelashes or a girl is wearing too much makeup or this or that, like we are there in the tv screen or out in makeup to impress them so it is their job to evaluate us!!!!! When they are 4’s and on a good day, a 6.
I’m seeing this toxic mentality in Gen Z guys too (I’m a millennial over 30) where they say things like “she’s mad because she didn’t get picked” when girls call them out online for their mysogyny. I feel like the porn sick culture they grew up with and every girl having a social media presence now makes them feel like they are just there to be judged upon and compared. I don’t think all Gen Z boys are like this but it makes me sick to see it because it feels like as a society we have regressed. It makes me sad for Gen Z girls and I am glad I am not a teenager or in my 20s anymore.
