Basically the plan I told him was:
- Make it out of this shithole country and get to any developed country ASAP. (Right now the education route seems like the only viable one. Expensive but no other choice. I researched everything and this is the only way to make it out immediately)
- Do a Master's in Digital Marketing there. It's a fast growing field and I already have some good experience from internships in it and my bachelor's I'm about to complete is related to it as well. So it should be easy to get into a good school.
- Finish the Master's and land a good job, which shouldn't be a problem if the school is good and I have a killer GPA, which will be a breeze (I absorb info fast and am always at the top of my class).
- Work hard and live frugally while making good career moves with the first priority being to pay off the student loan which I'll probably have taken (hard to get much in scholarships for Master's, especially as a male and from my country which is overrepresented in foreign universities so they don't really want more of us lol)
- Once the loan is paid off, then it's just smooth sailing from there. Keep advancing in my career, making good connections and making good investments. I don't think entrepreneurship is my speed so I'm gonna be fine with just a nice job, at least for a good while.
- The ultimate dream is a nice cushy executive marketing job where I just order people around and make hilarious amounts of money while taking vacations to the Maldives. But yes yes I know this might be just a pipe dream lol. I don't really care though. Even a good upper-mid level job is fine for me. I don't want a big house or expensive cars or none of that shit at all. Just to be able to live kinda comfortably, afford some finer things and some travelling, and pursue some hobbies like filmmaking. That's really it.
So when I told him this plan he said the above quote. And also when I told him this last part about how I don't really need THAT much money he said 'Why don't you want to be rich?' I laughed and said of course it's not that I DON'T want to be rich, I mean who doesn't want a mansion and a Lambo or whatever lol, just that I don't think I have what it takes and that very few people even ever make it that high especially without any silver spoons or connections of any sort. So why throw away my life, health, time, and sanity to engage in a futile pursuit of something that just statistically is almost certainly out of my reach. Especially when I don't really need all that, and I'll be just fine being a little comfortable. All I really need. You can't take it with you when you die anyway, right?
He just kinda looked at me weird and shook his head. And he had to leave right after that, but he told me to rethink some of these things before we talk next. I'm meeting him again next week but I still don't know what to make of these two things he said.
