I'm a high earning Senior Software Developer, and I use a basic phone for texts and calls. Her criteria for finding a high status male needs updating.

The goal is to be rich, not to look rich.
[–]l0g1cm4rt79 points80 points81 points 5 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link
This is why I dress down when out in public.
[–]f3wl14 points15 points16 points 5 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
I too dress down because I can't wear professional clothes at work and athleisure is way better at home. I do buy selvedge jeans and fancy boots to wear out, but no one other than boot and jeans guys will appreciate how much they cost. Switched from automatic swiss watches (used to be a hobby) to apple watch to stay low key.
[–]l0g1cm4rt1 point2 points3 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
A man of similar tastes. I have to admit I still wear my chronograph watches (i collect them) but am careful they don't show when in public.
[–]u45349693462 points3 points4 points 5 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
I love plain tshirts and sweat jackets. I don't attract attention, they are extremely cheap and more money to invest. win win win.
[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I don't think business wear has to be expensive. You can fly to South East Asia and get tailored suits for $200 each - maybe less - and they'ld last for 5 years.
Thing is walking around in public in business attire isn't normal and arguably isn't safe in most 2nd and 3rd world countries. I know if I was mugger in Latin America or Eastern Europe: I'm going for the guy in the business suit first.

Hoodies, the hoodie always wins for me.

I love having no debt and lots of savings. I used to care about looking like I had money but who gives a shit about what people think about my finances. Money is freedom and the more I have, the less shit I have to put up with.
[–]willpower0687[S] 30 points31 points32 points 5 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
Exactly, I ware the same stuff now as I did when I was dead ass broke. Granted it's newer, not faded and patched holes like my old clothes were, but I don't care how.much money I have, I know what I find comfortable and buy that. The only extravagant upgrade I have done is to my insoles, I was so happy when I finally had enough disposable income to afford a $300 pair of custom orthotics. Which has made my quality of life way better not feeling crippled after a days work on my feet.
[–]Starshitlord13 points14 points15 points 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Same, old faded hoody, old jeans or some pair of pants I have owned for many years, why dress up to go get a few groceries or pick up some package from the post. Also toss in a no shave for 30 day beard and old worn out sneakers and ppl leave me alone.

[–]twunting0 points1 point2 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
No the goal is to spend a lot of money. Being rich, yet thrifty would would fly for these types.
[–]protonpaq40 points41 points42 points 5 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
I am an independently wealthy retired ex-software engineer and I drive a seven year old car that wasn't even special 7 years ago. On an average day, the clothes I wear probably cost $40 total and were bought more than 5 years ago. When I go out, people largely ignore me and I like it that way.
[–]l0g1cm4rt13 points14 points15 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
This is my dream.
[–]davids87714 points15 points16 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
The only item I wear with any value is my shoes, which are almost always hiking boots. Which luckily no matter how much they cost no women will ever notice. My phone no matter how new always gets put in an ugly ass Otter Box case so there's no sign of it being new or fancy.
[–]Ben_Eszes0 points1 point2 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Congrats, I hope to be in that position some day. I kinda dress like a hobo in public. But it's comfortable and it doesn't affect my confidence so I'm fine with it.

When I was literally poor the bus felt great value.
Now I simply can't do that. I get confused looks from people when I told them I never used Jeepneys in the Philippines or even public transit in Eastern Europe. Why would I when most taxi rides are under $5 and I don't leave my neighborhood that often? If you only leave your neighborhood once every 7 days than that $5 in taxi fare is under $1 a day for transit.
Last time I took any form of public transit would had been the subway and intercity trains in Taiwan and that was years ago.

The irony is that I use a Galaxy Note 10+ 5g, but since it's not an iPhone, the phone may as well not exist and I'm simply there making strange gestures in the air with my hand.
[–]Legs2big4 points5 points6 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Women don’t exist to us anyway. Fair game.
[–]l0g1cm4rt2 points3 points4 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I've also had men give me strange looks when I pull out my cheap little nokia on a bus/train and they hear the buttons clicking as I respond to a text.
Thing is, I only use the phone for calls and text. The only social media I have is linkedin and reddit, which work perfectly fine on my laptop. I have no use for a smartphone; therefore, it is illogical to spend several hundred quid on a device which will not [for me] fulfil it's purpose.
[–]_n1codemus0 points1 point2 points 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
No it does not. It is perfectly fine like it is. Blessing is in a disguise.
ahh... I get you, you're right :-)

No wonder women are miserable: their mate selection criteria is completely counterintuitive. I never understood the judgement regarding people having old phones. It's so shallow and pointless...does having the latest and greatest mean I'm a better person?
Wait...don't answer that.
[–]battle-obsessed49 points50 points51 points 5 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link
Women always fall for peacocking regardless of whether the guy is actually stable.
[–]gentle_lemon19 points20 points21 points 5 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link
A piss poor mate selection strategy if you ask me.
[–][deleted] 20 points21 points22 points 5 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
Which is exactly why these women select piss poor mate as well. And over there at FDS they call them HVM. What do they even know about high value.
[–]gentle_lemon10 points11 points12 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I guess when you have a value as a woman of '0', then even a dude that's a '3' is a HVM. The entire thing just baffles me.
[–]f3wl1 point2 points3 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
no no he'd only be HVM if he bought YOU the latest iphone 12 pro max super double plus without you asking for it.

Another reason ancient civilization encrouraged men to marry off their daughter once they came of age; for the stability of society.
Now with technology, humans are much more disposable.

Bc bitches are stupid.
I could walk around in an expensive suit and have all of $19 dollars in my bank account or I could wear fairly cheap casual clothing and stack bread every paycheck.
Chances are good they would throw themselves at me in the suit.
Stupidass bitches.

A man willing to spend money is a sign of a provider. That is why they correlate a man owning new stuff with being attractive because there is a good chance he will spend money on them as well.
[+][deleted] 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
I agree with you but most people aren’t smart enough to realize this. Usually shiny new cars are financed with debt while the wealthy are driving around the old beaters.
[+][deleted] 5 years ago* (1 child) | Copy Link
Agreed. The poor live like they are rich and the actual rich usually live like they are poor.
[–]Drevstarn36 points37 points38 points 5 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
I know a girl who was excited about a guy and was telling how he worked in high end Silicon Valley before. We are not living in USA by the way. I thought she was proud in her new bf. Then her mother raised the issue that how he never paid bill and they always split, a week later she broke up with the guy.
She is a fat feminist who appears to be always up for gender equality but she can't help giving hints that how obsessed with money she is. She once even said "BMI charts are ridiculous, according to it I'm obese but we know that I'm not". Delusions.
She did the lad a favour. 😹 The garden tool was morbidly obese. One can do better in a heartbeat, no worries, nothing of value was lost.
[–]LemonZeppelin271 point2 points3 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Feminists can want special treatment and privileges all they want (the modern ones clearly don't want equality) but they have to at least be worthy of it to even make that argument. Being delusional is a main reason why I've checked out of the dating scene.

The iPhone 6 is a perfectly capable phone. If it does what he needs, it would be a stupid financial move to buy an upgrade that he doesn't need. She's essentially demanding that he make foolish financial choices. Just because you can afford to buy something does not mean that you should.
[–]Alpha_913 points14 points15 points 5 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
Can confirm. Used to have an iPhone 6s which I bought about 4.5 years ago. I have only recently switched to an iPhone 7, because my old phone just had many issues and it wasn't really worth fixing it. But all in all, it is more than enough for all the daily tasks you would normally need it for.
[–]TigPlaze10 points11 points12 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Yup, there are people who always buy the latest iPhone as soon as it comes out. That's all hype. Hardly anyone needs all the very latest features. I use my phone to call and text people, to find gas stations, to find a restaurant or hotel when out of town, to study my French, to play chess, and a few other things I can't think of right now. Given my needs, there's no reason on this Earth that I need the very latest iPhone or Android. It would be a total waste of money for me.
[–][deleted] 7 points8 points9 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Yea, thats how my upgrade cycle works. Every couple years I buy the oldest phone thats out. Currently on the iphone 8.
[–]priestMarX6 points7 points8 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Women love guys who make foolish financial choices, because they see it as a sign he’ll be willing to blow money on her. They have no use for a man who practices smart spending
[–]TheOneTrueDonuteater2 points3 points4 points 5 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
I generally buy a phone every 2 years or so. But that's more because they start to not work properly, or wear and tear.
[–]TigPlaze4 points5 points6 points 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Yeah, if you start to have issues, a new phone makes sense. I've found I can usually get about 3 to 4 years out of a phone, but toward the end it gets harder to use. The people who buy a new phone just because Apple or Samsung or whoever just released it are pissing money away.
I'm finally considering a tablet, but only because there's a guitar app that would be way easier to use with a big screen than on a phone. So far I haven't needed a tablet that bad. If you have a need for some feature and it makes things better, that's one thing. But just buying the latest iPhone or whatever for status is ridiculous.
[–]willpower0687[S] 0 points1 point2 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Totally agree. I only upgrade my phone when my old one becomes to unstable or the battery life tanks. Then I buy a 2 year contract and get a phone in the $15 to $20 a month payment plan. Usually has already been out year or two and has a new version of it. I do have a tablet but I got a Kindle fire 8 when it was buy 2 for $100 on Amazon. I use it to watch streaming shows when I'm not at my main computer. More than that, I don't see the point. I am very tech savvy, been in the industry my whole life. Used to custom build computers for people and set up office net work systems. It isn't a matter of I don't know how to use the new fangled phones, it is a matter of I fully understand the upgraded features and don't care to pay double or triple for them when I won't even use them.
[–]The_Wicked_Wombat33 points34 points35 points 5 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
Had the note 4 until I got the note 9. Zero reason to exchange it til it died it was a good phone.
[–]willpower0687[S] 6 points7 points8 points 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Yes it was. My dad had the note 4 about 6 years. We had to get new batteries for it every 6-8 months. But that's the beauty, it was a replaceable battery. Replaced the charge port on it to about 3 times as it wore out. My wife had her note 4 about 3 years until her cat drug it off her computer bench by catching the charge cord, it hit the floor just right and shattered the screen. Tried to fix it but accidentally cut one of the screen contacts and take the phone.
[–]The_Wicked_Wombat3 points4 points5 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Damn ya same thing with me the battery would run out towards the end. I love the notes, its what I buy going forward, the 4 was awesome, the 9 is awesome. Ill have them til it gives out again. Phones are wayyy too expensive anymore.

[–]BlueGrape1234 points5 points6 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
She clearly doesn't know the difference between being rich and being wealthy. U could have an iPhone 12 pro and be up to your neck in debt, and you could have (god forbid it) an Android and be living comfortably.
If anything, you save so much money by not going for the stupid $1000 yearly upgrades for a slightly better model.

I use an iPhone 5. This machine has been hit by wooden boards and not broken. HIT BY WOODEN BOARDS!
My friend has a recent years phone, one drop and it break the screen. You can not read or type. You need to pay to change the screen. It is expensive to do so. Etc.
I will keep my phone. Thanks.
I hate iphone, the only reason I bought this crap is because these phones have a stupid ass notch that I now have to take into account in my app. Otherwise I would have never bought this.
