20 years old here. I went to the dentist today because I have slightly crooked teeth and I wanted to get braces. Turns out braces are not enough, because my jaw is "misaligned" or some shit and I'd have to get a surgical operation with total anesthesia so they can chop it off a bit and do little magic tricks. He said the treatment would be about 3 years long ( braces, surgical operation and then braces again ), which would suck btw as Im gonna join university in September.

Not sure what I should do. I do care, but Im not self-conscious about it, I dont hide my smile etc... I only tryhard during photos because my jaw can look weird as fuck depending on angle and light. And I guess I never smile in photos.

I dont look bad right now. My lips naturally hide the bottom row when I smile, so the only problem is the top row because my 2 central incisors ( I think thats what theyre called in English ) "cave in". My smile looks good from the front and kinda weird from the side.

I also never got any comment on my teeth/jaw situation, except when a few girls called my teeth cute.

OBVIOUSLY I'd prefer to get everything fixed but Im not sure if the jaw surgery ( that shit is scary tbh lol ) and 3 years of braces during university years are worth it. They cost a fuckton as well. But I also dont want to regret not doing everything now and end up getting braces at 30 years old. What do you think?

TL:DR: Wanted to get braces, turns out I have to get jaw surgery if I want to straighten my teeth. Not sure if its worth it to have surgery + braces for 3 years during university. It costs a lot, I look decent and Im not self-conscious. But at the same time, I'd like to fix everything.
