Hey y'all, I'm 30 and from Texas! Well, I'll start by saying that I'd never thought I'd be here... and certainly never thought I'd post. I'm a staunch feminist and very liberal. After watching a documentary on the MRM, I felt some good points were made. And I heard of TRP, so I thought I'd check it out. Well, needless to say, I don't think it was the place for me and I don't think I'll be going back there. (I think I said that as kindly as I possibly could.) But I saw there was a group for women and was incredibly curious. Was this a group of women who were proud hookups of these alphas? I had to find out more!
Instead, I found women like me who had goals to get married and have families. My education was incredibly important to me, but a career has always been kind of a secondary goal in my life. I respect career women a great amount and certainly don't judge their choices in life. (And many of them don't have a choice anyways! A single-income is difficult to live on!) I've just always wanted to be a SAHM.
I'm actually engaged to a wonderful man whom I've been with for 19 months now. We were supposed to get married in June, but we had to put off our wedding until next year due to some health issues. (Everybody is fine, no worries! Just thought it would be best!) I'm extraordinarily happy in our relationship. I knew he was the one from the very beginning, and he knew I was the one. We moved in together after only a month (no, I would NEVER recommend that to anybody even though it worked for us... very reckless) and were engaged after nine months. We have arguments sometimes like any couple, but we work well together. We're a great team. He's my best friend, my rock, my solid ground, my soulmate.
We both want to start a family very soon after we get married in June 2019. I will have just turned 33, so we want to start trying quickly, as my parents had great difficulties. (They were actually both told they were infertile, yet somehow my Mom had two miscarriages before me, a tubal pregnancy after me, and then gave birth to two beautiful daughters after me who both died of brain abnormalities. My OBGYN tells me that she doesn't think I will have the same problems with brain abnormalities, but miscarriages can happen to anybody.) To be honest, even if my parents hadn't had difficulties, we both really want children. And I'm lucky that we're on the same page when it comes to the amount of children and especially on how we want to raise them!
I'm currently on disability for severe depression and anxiety, so I am not working. (I know many of you probably don't think that mental illness can be debilitating, but mine is very severe, and it truly is. If you want more details on my situation, I'm open to answering questions and won't be offended if you ask... because I DO understand that the vast majority of people haven't met somebody with a debilitating mental illness. I won't judge if you want to prod me further on that.) My fiance is INCREDIBLY supportive and helpful. I was actually in remission for my depression for a while for the first time in 25 years (I started showing signs of it when I was 5 after my second sister died), but due to some situational things, I'm depressed again. I do, however, see things getting better. My anxiety is at an all time high, but I'm working on it. ANYWAYS, that whole paragraph was to say that I would like to work if I'm able to before I have kids, but would like to be a SAHM if financially possible... I don't know if I want to be one forever, and may go back to work at least part-time when my kids get into high school, but I have a while to think about that!
As for the ideas of this board... I'm hesitant to give into all of them because of my own personality style -- and his. But I do like others. And I'm open to hearing and learning more! The feminine thing comes naturally to me. I'm incredibly feminine! Being a homemaker DOES NOT come naturally, but that's something I want to do -- and planned to do before I came to these boards. It's something I need to work on. And while my fiance would tell you that I'm definitely not a nag, I could probably phrase some things in nicer ways and STFU from time to time. It's mainly the C/FM thing that I have a hard time with. It's not that I have a hard time with him leading me. I do let him lead me. We just kind of take turns leading each other depending on the situation. Because of my personality, I'm kind of surprised at how submissive I've already been because I'm very dominant and a natural born leader, but giving up control and letting him lead me sometimes was never difficult because I love and trust him. I don't know if I can get there 100% -- and I don't know if he would necessarily want to always be the leader -- but I do want to learn more. Yes, we have a great relationship, but I believe you always have to keep working on a relationship even when it is great! If you don't... it can so easily slide away.
I don't know if RP is right for me. It might not be. No one solution will work for 100% of people. But it would be a shame if I missed out on something that ended up being right for me because I wasn't 100% sold from the beginning! I've read enough of the forums and comments to know that while not outright stated, I'm kind of public enemy #1 because I'm a liberal feminist. I understand this is an anti-feminist board and it's kind of weird for me to post here... and if asked, I won't speak negatively about feminism. However, I will not bring up my feminist or political views here. There are other places on the internet better suited for that. I hope you can welcome me despite my background... because while somewhat skeptical, I truly am interested.
Plus, when it comes down to it, we're all women who want the same thing -- a loving husband and amazing children to enrich our lives.
