Hey guys, my cat died and I feel so terrible. Any of you guys got any advice how to get over this?

Lost mine last year and it surprised me how intense the hurt was. The comfort I found was that she was loved and had no fear of death like humans do so it was peaceful when she passed. I hope you find peace and I’ll be having a beer tonight in his honor.

Sorry man. It's okay to be sad when your pet dies. Don't worry about "getting over it". Time does that automatically. You don't have to do anything specific, it just happens. No need to try to rush it.

For me, what makes me the most sad is missing them...thinking things like "I'll never pet them again" or "they'll never sit here or there again" so avoid that type of thinking. Whenever you do think of them, do the whole "remember when?" stuff. All the things that made you happy. And all the ways you're sure you made them happy. Focus on the good, don't focus on the bad, in summery.

I feel you so much on this. I know exactly what you're going through.

Im 30 and ever since I was a boy I always had a pet cat as a companion and I just kinda kept adding them as they would pass away over the years. My last two were brothers and I had one for 12 years and the other for 15.

It's gonna hurt for awhile bro, that's just how it is unfortunately. We get these animals as pets knowing beforehand we are going to out live them, so we enjoy our time with them and make good memories with them and just cherish the time spent together.

It's important you know how special you were to your cat, you were his entire world man, and he loved the hell outta you. I want you to remember that and know it's okay to be sad, it's a sadness of a lose yes sure but it's also a sadness that reminds you how special that connection you shared was right.

It'll be okay, I promise you, it will pass, just embrace it and go through it.

I'm so sorry for your loss. I had to have mine euthanized years ago, and I thought I could never get attached to another, but after a few months the void got to me, and I adopted a little stray. She doesn't look the same, so I don't feel like I got a "replacement cat," and I'm very glad of the quiet companionship.

Sorry for your loss buddy. These things are always tough considering they give us so much love in just a short lifetime. I was always a dog guy myself but back when I was dating my ex her cat grew to love me and vice versa. Our cat would sleep with me every night. She then found a kitten last october who was my dude. Loved the shit out of those cats, then she broke up with me, and miss the cats more than I miss her.

So sorry. Lost my 13 yr old kitty 3 Thanksgivings ago. It almost killed me. The 2nd cat I have lost. I went directly to the pound and got a beautiful little black kitty. My last cat was black. I love this new cat so much. It helped me grieve. Good luck

First you bury him in the back yard. Make sure it's at least 1 foot down so no animals dig it up. Then get a new kitty from the pound. Every week they have kittens they have to get rid off.

Maybe name the cat the same name.

A big part of grief is that billions of neuronal connections have suddenly been made obsolete, and there's a painful dynamic between the parts of your brain that assume the cat still exits and the other part that is constantly telling it to re-form itself to reflect the new reality. The best and most classical salve is to replace the object with a new one, thus smoothing the transition, because it's easier to change from "old cat to new cat" than it is to "old cat to no cat". Get a kitten or a rescue.

I've been through far too many deaths, some quick and some horribly slow that still haunt my nightmares (listening to your friend die moaning the entire night knowing you could do nothing shatters you). Have a nice drink (alcohol or not, just nice), say a toast, put on some music, and remember the good times.

It sounds like he had a really good life. Yeah he is gone, but you gave him a good life , he could have died years before in a gutter having never received love or affection, but you prevented that.

2 years after I adopted a cat, he died of saddle thrombus suddenly at the age of 4. I was so sad, but everytime I think of him i just remeber that my family gave him a good two years of love and affection before the inevitable happened.
