Thanks again, sisters. This group is really opening my eyes to a lot of reality, stimulating me to shift my thinking toward true empowerment. I’m a lesbian, and I regret to inform you that not all lesbians are feminists. In fact, many of us re-enact the power imbalances of the patriarchy. E.g. many lesbians want to date a woman who is “easy”, who doesn’t speak up about her feelings being hurt. Also, there is an epidemic of chronic lying in the lesbian dating world. As gay people, we grew up in dark closets, forced to hide our identities and lie about who we were in order to survive. We learned how to lie before we learned how to love. When we come out, the deeply ingrained survival strategy of lying does not disappear. I don’t exclude myself from unhealthy lesbian behaviour. But as I now really lean into my feminism, I am learning to seek out my tribe. I am getting closer with my feminist friends, and mentally distancing myself from the lifestyles of friends who are still brainwashed by the patriarchy. I will only date a woman whose feminism aligns with mine, who when I tell her that a behaviour of hers hurts me, responds with “Thank you for telling me, you’re right, and you deserve to be treated properly.
