I'm no expert to take what I say with a grain of salt. I would progress slower. Most people are in the gym to workout and not be hit on. Take that into consideration. I would just start by making small talk..and not a lot of it. Get her name when you can and let it progress from there. If she's interested she will want to talk. And it'll will naturally progress and you can slip in the "hey let's grab coffee sometime". But for me its always best to not "hump where you pump" (I love that line). Just be aware that if she's a good looking girl chances are some gym bro has already started hitting on her right from the get go. I don't think you want to be "that guy"

Never mind - it doesn't matter.

First, I consider the gym to be a sacred space where I focus on ME and my workout. I don't speak to women there unless they are curling in the squat rack and I want to use it. That said . . .

Approach her during the day and in a public space. (This maximizes her comfort and will make her more prone to be open to your approach.)

Try to catch her when she is alone or with no more than one other person. (This reduces the social pressure on her to give the "right" answer, rather than the one she wants to give you.)

Say, "Hi, my name is X. I've seen you around. Let's go grab some coffee/drinks after class/work." (Drinks if you are over 21, coffee if you are not."

Name a public place, fairly well lit and quiet enough that you can hear each other talk and see each other clearly.

If she says "yes," ask for her name and phone number. (Not her facebook.)
