Background: 24 year old male, living in Eastern USA

I made an appointment with an escort today. As I was heading toward her location, I came to the realization that I was heading into a sketchy part of town. Naturally I was worried, but my other head did the thinking for me and I decided to continue on my journey.

She buzzed me in when I got into the apartment. I put the money on the table after I entered the room, and used the washroom to freshen up. When I left, the prostitute and the money were gone.

I called the police, and I quickly realized I was not going to get any sympathy for my unfortunate situation. The dispatcher was incredibly condescending, asking why I was taking advantage of women and that as a man, I shouldn't be involving myself in this industry and should find other ways to satisfy my urges.

When the police arrived, it was even worse. They actually knew the escort (I think something like this had happened before). When I shared what happened, they said that I must have tried to make her uncomfortable and that she was following her "girl instincts" by taking the money and running off. One of them told me that I shouldn't have even called 911 in the first place, and that I should man-up and shrug the whole thing off.

Here's the issue fellas. I'm not too disappointed with losing the money. I'm more disappointed about the fact that they automatically assumed the prostitute was the victim, and that as a man I was somehow to blame.

It's a shame that not even the police can look out for us anymore.
