Anyone here ever packed their things and relocated to a place where they knew nobody? No coworkers. No friends. No family. No nothing.

Yes, I did once. It was so cool at first, but then the novelty of the new place wore of. I became better at making friends, because I had to in order to not be completely alone, but that doesn't mean that everything was great.

I made a change and people noticed and they judged me. It's hard, but at the end of the day, haters don't matter. Little piece of advice: even though a new place can help you begin a new life and forget old shit, let go of the old shit even before you go. Don't take it with you.

If you have social media, stop using it and set up another account that nobody of your old friends knows about. Make sure they can't find it so easily.

I will eventually hit the road again. I will move out of my parent's house once this corona thing is over (my country has one of the worst rules and laws regarding covid).

This time I try to not attract too much attention and to fit in better. It's all about finding the right crowd, everything else should come easy.

Grew up in Pennsylvania and moved to Florida the day I graduated college. Lived there by myself for a year and a half.

Then moved to DC, again by myself, and have lived here for almost 2 years.

I’m moving to Colorado, by myself, later this year.

The best way I’ve found to make friends is to find a bar you like and keep going to it. Other people will be doing the same thing. You become a regular and meet up with the other regulars.

I’ve avoided hanging out with my coworkers outside of work at all costs and would advise everybody else to do the same.

The loneliness didn’t bother me in Florida. I lived next to a dozen strip clubs and was only 15 minutes from the beach. DC has sucked, and I’m sure Covid plays a big role in that. I’ve spent a few months in Colorado alone and didn’t have an issue with loneliness there either. If I did get lonely, I’d probably get a dog.

I experienced some of this by not being active on social media, stop being active on social media for a little over 10 years now. Nobody knows what I am doing, how I'm doing, or how I look like now. Folks I know will spot me randomly in town and act all surprise try to see what I'm doing but I just keep it short and be on my way. I meet a lot of random people due to my job, so make contacts that come and go. Do I get lonely? Yeah sometimes but I only feel lonely when I am not busy doing something, if you get lost in your thoughts you start thinking about random bad stuff. So I try to stay busy and go out on adventures solo or with buddies.

Yeah, I moved shortly after my 18th bday to get away from abusive family.

Arrived in the UK with nothing but my PC, some clothes and 200 quid to my name. Thank fuck I had a friend willing to set me up @ his place.

Never really made any friends here but that doesn't bother me, my few internet buddies are more reliable and trusted than anyone I've ever met IRL was. In fact the anonymity is lowkey great.
Also what the other guy said, don't hang out with coworkers. What happens at work stays at work. Always.

Yep, and it kinda sucks. Sure, the salary was nice. But I sure do miss being able to just call up one of the boys, and an hour later we're chillin like villains.

Loneliness will depend on your ability to make friends. I get along with people quite well, but it's hard to find a true friend. Once you're grown, everyone is wanting something from others.

It 2020 I immigrated from Russia to Canada. Obviously I knew no one here and I am single so I am here on my own. But that is ok I am used to relying on myself only.

I've moved to my wife's home town and know no one really. We are now separating and I've got to live here as we have two children. No family or friends close to me. Going to be interesting few months.

I just did it last week. Took over an office in another city. I know none of the office staff, none of the subcontractors, and am currently sitting in a dive bar full of the after work crowd, and know nobody.

It's kinda nice.

Yes. I did this 6 years ago. Moved to a new state where I had only ever visited once prior. Knew no one, 1000 miles from friends, family and anyone I knew.

Basically my job was in a large national chain, the specific location was ceasing its function and the company offered to transfer staff from there to another store in the chain anywhere within the nation. I could have done the sensible thing and got transferred to another store within the original city, but I saw it as an opportunity to explore a new city and for personal growth. Since I perceived the hardest aspect of moving to a new city was securing a job, and I had already gotten that aspect figured out, it was all gravy…

I first moved to the new city, I lived in a share house. It was managed by a slumlord via personal off the books type unofficial property manager. I didn’t have problems with him (until I moved out and wanted the return of my deposit - but that’s another story), and for the most part other people in the house I got along with fine - I just kept mostly to myself and did my own thing - I was on my own hustle; But I was forced to confront people’s attitudes I hadn’t come across in life before - the habitually lazy and not ambitious… this guy was busking in the streets and pretended life was fine because he “worked” his own hours, 4 days a week when the sun was out and whenever he felt like it. He would set aside $5 or whatever for a 7-eleven sandwich for lunch everyday, didn’t cook himself and would have appeared to be a free spirited hippy type. In reality he was 100% supported by the government on unemployment benefits and that was something I had to come to terms with are people just happy to skate by on life and not put in effort to better themselves or their situation. They are happy being a leech to society permanently.

My problem was I had grown attached to my many material possessions.I liked “stuff”, but stuff was basically weighing me down when I’m moving physically, so I had to reassess what I really truly needed to get by on a day to day basis. And it was surprisingly less than what I thought I needed. I had a high performance car that I paid a lot of money for, that was kinda unsuitable within my new environment - the longer distance commute and associated fuel costs, plus servicing it - All basically logistical issues I hadn’t really thought about before because I took it for granted the established way of doing things in the old city where I knew people and had established business relationships.

I guess I got lucky that my work colleagues became friends outside of work. I still keep in regular contact with them even after leaving the company. My only other social circle were in my old city - so I’d still travel 3-4 times a year on weekend trips to visit them. I never made the effort to find friends in the new city, I was too attached to work (before I quit and became self employed that is).

I ultimately bought 2 properties within these 6 years, and I’m facing the strong possibility of moving back to my original city. As COVID sort of put a wrench in the gears of progress - I had intended to make the new city my permanent forever home but in the end, it looks like it was a nice half decade detour in my life journey. I’m sort of living in between the two states right now, with various flare up of covid numbers resulting in govt lockdowns so I’m stuck in whichever I find myself in presently.

I did it last year. Weeks before the corona-chan scare started. Moved from the NY tri-state area to Russia. I'm semi-retired, less than 40, no wife, no kids. Never been happier.

Also no dindus here, it's amazing.

Yeah, I've done it multiple times. My last time was about 3 years ago and I'll be moving again at the end of this summer. I last about 5 years maximum in the same place before I get bored and want to experience a new place. I look at it as long-term traveling. I don't have friends or close family in the first place, so it's easy to move.

I moved to my current city without a job lined up. People thought I was crazy, but I knew it would work out and it did. This time I have a job lined up and I'm actually moving more for the job this time than for the actual experience of moving. The new location is a nice added bonus.

In my experience, it's pretty easy to make friends through work if you want. A lot of people have no real life outside of work and will try to be your friend. I've never been open to it, but if you're looking for friends that's one option.

My marriage ended. She ripped me off horribly. Convinced my daughters and ''our" friends to hate me. Etc the same old story. I'd had enough of family, friends, jobs, money, women, sex, drugs, rock and roll. I grew to hate the city and concrete and greedy BMW status quo assholes and the soccer moms brigade. So I went to the most remote place I could find, a Lakota Sioux reservation in the middle of the country, South Dakota. Lived in a trailer on a ranchers land isolated from everything and miles from anywhere. 3 hours to a Walmart or a Starbucks. Got a couple dogs and a parrot lol. Buttes and prairie and wild life and silence all around me. Stars for years. Brutal winters. Hot summers. Learned how to ranch and ride horses. Got a job at the tribal college. Met some good people and some real assholes. Did a lot of charity work for very poor people. Stayed away from the women. Lonely? Sometimes. Learned to stay busy and enjoy what I had. Loved the silence. The beauty. I stayed ten years and came back to society a few years ago. I now live in the desert of California haha. Was a big culture shock and I'm sort of thinking of going back to South Dakota. Anyways, yeah, I did it and I'm glad I did and would not trade the experience for anything. I lived my life.

2015, sold off everything in the country I was born in, never felt like home.

Moved to a new country with fresh opportunities, accomplished more in a decade and made it home, than in 2 decades in the original country.

I've always assumed ownership of my own actions, outcomes, and situation. So there never was loneliness, regret, etc.

Learn from others' mistakes before making your own, learn from your own before repeating them.

You are what you attract, so build intrinsic value to attract and forge productive connections, regardless of the environment you're in.

Spanish. Spent five years abroad (France, UK & Switzerland). I missed friends, food and climate. But I met interesting people, learned new languages, and became more open-minded. It was well worth it. An experience I'd recommend.

When I was young my parents decide to teach me a lesson and kicked me out of home. They thought I would spend a few hours walking around and come home and apologise. Instead without any money I jumped on the train ended up 100 miles away in an area I didn't know anyone or even where I was and spent the next few years homeless. It was fun.

When I graduated high school I moved from Indianapolis to VT. I worked a masonry job, lived in Montpelier (the capital of VT), and had no one at all. It was amazing, liberating even. A chance to be myself without worrying about what others saw me as or wanted me to be. Sure it was frightening at first, but I wasn't lonely. I was fortunate enough to quickly make friends with my coworkers and busy enough to not miss anyone

My first expirience of that sort was when I went to serve in the army. On one hand, it was in my country, my home town (for the most part) and comunication was in my native language. On the other hand, you do not leave just your friends and family behind - you leave your old life behind! Everything! Habits, hobies, life style - EVERYTHING! It was amazing! The best part of my life so far.

Second time was when I went from Serbia to work in Kazakhstan. A good friend from uni invited me there, it was a small serbian company, so most of the people who worked there spoke my language, but they were complete strangers to me, aside from a buddy of mine who invited me there. He went to Tajikistan a month after I came, so I was left with strangers. It was cool! I made a lot of good friends there, learned russian language somewhat (which was my main objective), had fun, saved some cash and met there the best girl that I ever dated (I was already MGTOW at that time, it probably helped a ton). Yes, she was a single mom. A divorced one. I'm not even kidding! XD

And this is the third time I did it! I curently live in north Sibera, Russia, and work for a huge company. There was no one that I knew when I came here, my russian got a little rusty over a few years that I spent home, but it improved a lot in a last 7 months. There is not much to like here where I work. People are cool, but most of them are preoccupied with their jobs like myself. City is a relatively new (established less than a century ago), so there is not much to see. You know, a few shopping malls and basically that's it! Job is super boring and stressful at the same time.

Earning a "f#ck-you-money" is the name of the game this time around, so there is not much more than a paycheck that keeps me in here. Improving your skills and language, for sure, but I could do that at any place else.

Many times. Each time, it involved moving to another country, or even continent.

When you're young, it is an adventure and you meet like-minded people your age pretty quickly. If you do so as a single man later in life, it gets more difficult. It also depends on the kind of society or city you move to, some are a lot more open than others and there is often a language barrier and cultural differences to consider.

One thing definitely in favour, is that if you are a white guy for instance and you are moving to Asia, you'll find it a lot easier to find decent women, in fact you'll most likely be spoilt for choice.
