If you have read the Foundation stories by Isaac Asimov, you know that teams of mathematicians and scientists are sent to opposite ends of space to colonize space in order to preserve human history / knowledge after a scientific experiment reveals that a dark age will come to pass in which the human empire collapses. Do you believe that a similar concept could happen, in that different societies, whether governmental or perhaps privatised, could invest in the resources necessary to colonize other planets in order to establish segregated societies that could provide an escape from the worst elements of human nature, that would be self sufficient?
If you look at human history, it only proves what monstrous animals human beings are. Violence, murder, torture, rape, domination, you name it humans have indulged in it and frankly its pretty terrifying, because we do know that human nature does not change. With Elon Musk developing reusable rockets that he wants to colonize mars with, this results in much cheaper tools that we can use to colonize other planets. Perhaps this might be a reality in the future, in order to establish independent societies that can avoid all of the needless violence and conflict that we experience today and have experienced in the past.
We probably won't see it in our lifetime but perhaps in the future?
