It always annoys me when people say they don't want to spoil something and will thus not talk about it because I always say to myself "Then what the hell is the point in even bringing it up?"

Like those review videos about movies where the reviewer says "No spoilers ahead." Then why the hell am I watching this if you are not going to actually talk about anything of importance?

This is from the wikipedia entry: "The novel explores themes of subjugated women in a patriarchal society and the various means by which they resist and attempt to gain individuality and independence."

Also, " The Handmaid’s Tale is a feminist dystopian novel.. with the feminist utopian ideal which: "sees men or masculine systems as the major cause of social and political problems..."

I just read the premise of The Handmaiden's tale. It's based of fear of not enough births. This is a ridiculous fear. The fertility rate world-wide is 2.5 and the population is nearly 8 billion. That's way too many people already and still growing.

The fertility rate of the US is currently 1.73. If the entire world immediately adopted this fertility rate, it would take 20 generations or 600 years for the world population to reach 440 million people. In a thousand years, the population would still be 64 million. And that's assuming that the population rate remains constant. In reality, the fewer people there are, the less competition there is for resources, and the more children people have. It's a negative feedback system.

The very notion of the human race going extinct due to falling birth rates is preposterous. If we go extinct, it will be because overpopulation causes a nuclear war or ecological collapse. And unless the United States and Europe clamp down on net immigration, their populations will continue to rise and the quality of life lessen due to the undeveloped countries reproducing like a virus.
