Married about 5.5 years. Have a two-year-old. Sex once a month, sometimes less frequently. If I bring up the issue, it leads to a stupid argument that I mostly ignore while walking away to get a beer, but definitely doesn't lead to sex. It's actually exciting -- about 50% of the time, I come home to a loving woman who appreciates everything I do for our family and thinks I'm her hero. About 50% of the time, I come home to an irrational bitch I want to strangle. You never know what you're going to get. Always an adventure.

I work out six days a week. I'm not huge and buff -- small frame, in my 30s, probably don't eat enough or work the right stuff, and I actually over-train a bit, don't rest enough, and never get enough sleep. It's hard to find the time to really build mass when you're working full time and have a 2-year-old. But I'm cut as hell. Not an ounce of fat on me. I'm all lean muscle mass. I look pretty awesome with a shirt off, for a guy built like a runner instead of a football player, and I sweat confidence. I have no problems with my appearance.

I'm smart, over-educated, and have a six figure job. I take good care of my family.

Where I fall short is social acumen. I was a dorky, nose-picking, friendless kid up until high school. While everyone else was learning how to interact and be cool, I was reading books and playing video games. Fast forward to today. While socially connected people network well and get legs up in their careers, I've had to work twice as hard. My wife frequently calls me a "loser." I clawed my way up from a guy who couldn't find work out of school to a guy with a six-figure salary. I've done good. But because I'm a little socially awkward and not well connected, I'm a "loser."

That's where dread game and self-improvement are falling short for me. As long as my wife is comfortable that I'm socially inept, it doesn't matter how buff I get or how successful I am professionally. She doesn't seriously consider the possibility that I might pull the interest of another woman. I've been slowly upping my alpha behavior, little by little. You can't undo ten years of beta (we dated for 5 before marrying) by just coming home and being an asshole one day. But things have been on a (very) slow improvement curve the more I stonewall and laugh at her nonsense shit tests. What I really need to do is up my social skills, then engineer a few social events where she'll spot me happily chatting with a few girls twice as hot, and younger.

My wife hates TRP. Every time I observe something about men and women (not usually about her, but about a friend, some couple on TV, or something -- just making conversation), she looks at me like I'm high and tells me I'm full of shit. Lately, she's been screaming at me that I've turned into some kind of cocky asshole and she doesn't know me any more. I insist that the only thing that's changed is her perception, then quit responding to her irrational bitching. When she catches me reading non-fiction, she demands to know why I'm trying to change who I am. "Why are you reading the 48 laws of power? You're trying to be someone you're not." Honestly, I'm really enjoying reading more non-fiction, on a variety of topics of interest. I'm in my 30s. It's time to grow up and read stuff that actually betters myself. And that's what I tell her. She hates it.

Wouldn't you be worried if your dog started growling? It ain't a puppy no more...

Keep going. She has a weak hand and is bluffing, and she's beginning to understand you're seeing through it.

Best of lucks, man.

You're already instilling dread

[–]LadyLumen 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

She might also be less interested in sex because you guys have a two year old. Typically when women have very young children their sex drive goes into the gutter. Part of it is just that so much energy goes into the kid that there is none left over for sex. The other, from an evolutionary point of view, is that it is bad for women to procreate when they already have very young children to protect.

I would say definitely keep working on yourself. Relationship dynamics are hard to change, but they do change. She's used to 10 years of Beta, so she's continuing to treat you like one.

However, one thing I would suggest that might be a little less TRP is maybe there is something you can do to help out with the kid more? Sometimes women get resentful and angry if they feel like they are doing all the parenting, toddlers also mean less sleep.

Isn't this just hamstering as to why she is not having sex?

I think this would be in line with RP philosophy. Keep calling her on the bullshit and establish your frame as the Alpha.

However, one thing I would suggest that might be a little less TRP is maybe there is something you can do to help out with the kid more? Sometimes women get resentful and angry if they feel like they are doing all the parenting, toddlers also mean less sleep.

I would point you towards this from Rollo: http://therationalmale.com/2013/01/30/choreplay/

as to why that is not a great move. It's the woman's job to take care of the infants. Changing diapers is not doing to make her moist.

http://www.webmd.com/sex-relationships/news/20050928/married-with-kids-is-libido-lower-for-women

According to Web MD, women with children under the age of 5 are the most likely to have low sex drives. This makes sense from a hormonal and evolutionary point of view.

I'm not saying that OP shouldn't improve his game, but I'm pointing out that it is worth it to consider outside biological factors in addition to game and TRP ideas and all that.

Having a child is definitely a huge factor in changing the dynamic of our relationship. Most relationships, I imagine. We both bust our asses doing so much to care for the kid, and we’re both pissed off at the other all the time. The sensation is mutual – it seems to both of us like we’re doing everything, while the other person is just making a token effort to avoid getting yelled at. That’s because when you have a two-year-old, there are literally two piles of everything that need doing. Especially when you put work and keeping house on top of raising a child. That really doesn’t excuse the irrational bitchiness or the sexless marriage, though.

My wife works. Part time. From home. She makes just enough to send our child to daycare, and not a whole lot more (not even insurance – I pay for insurance for both my wife and child). My one selfish thing I do is that I leave the house, every weekday, at 5:AM to hit the gym, leaving my wife to dress the kid and drive to daycare. She doesn’t care for the child all day – daycare does that. She just puts the kid in clothes and drives there in the morning, and picks up in the afternoon, which can be rough some days, but it’s not exactly slaving away with my kid all day while I sneak out of the house early and work late. I do most of the child care on weekends (and am told that I deserve it because I’m such a horrible, absentee parent during the week).

The moment I get home after a hard day of supporting our family, the child is thrust into my arms, because she’s been “taking care of your kid all day, plus I worked all day too” and needs a break. I plan and cook 90% of our meals and do a good three-quarters of our laundry (she does the part where you dump the clothes into the machine and push buttons. I do the part where you fold and hang every article of clothing.) She does the bulk of the cleaning. And bitches about it. And about having to do any amount of child care. And especially about being the one who has to take off from work if the kid is ever sick. Pretty much, any time she has to do anything, it’s a terrible and unfair burden that she has to do it instead of me. If I weren’t such a loser, I’d have the kind of job where I could be home doing her housework and childcare for her. And I’d make more money.

Most nights, I bathe the kid and put her to bed. Maybe once a month, if that, I have to be out somewhere at night for a work-related thing or a networking event of some kind, and my wife bathes and puts our child to sleep. I never hear the end of that. If the kid is ever up during the night, I wake up with her – I’ve been doing that since she was six months old, because I just plain got sick of hearing my wife bitch about how tired she is and how I never do anything to help out.

It’s not really an option to do more and help out with my child – I already do just about all I can without working mommy-track hours at my job or giving up my morning work-out, which is really the only me I time I get, ever. I actually started staying home one day a week to help get the kid dressed. Once that became normal, it wasn’t enough any more, and the fact that I was around “only” one morning a week made me more of a loser. I told my wife to fuck herself and took my one morning a week back rather than giving her more. Any time I give that disrespectful woman anything, she just wants more. That’s really what’s wrong with [most] women. If they’re unhappy people, they’re going to be unhappy. It doesn’t matter what you do or give them. They’ll just suck the joy and energy out of life, still be miserable, and demand more so they can suck the happiness out of that as well. Better to focus on being happy yourself.

Seriously -- you guys who are reading this and aren't married yet: don't fucking do it.

[–]LadyLumen 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

Wow, sounds like your wife is being unnecessarily bitchy, (my apologies if this is not the case). But yeah, child care definitely puts a huge strain on any marriage and frequently kills your sex life.

It sounds like your wife is giving you a lot of shit tests though and using the kid to do it. No matter how much you do, it'll never be enough.

This reminds me of the dynamic between my boyfriends parents. His dad works 50 hours a week, and when dad gets home, mom expects him to do the dishes, vacuum and do other cleaning tasks. Meanwhile, mom works 4 hours a day at her part time job and cooks one meal a week when she feels like it. Most of the time I see her sitting on her ass playing cell phone games and watching sitcoms. She bitches incessantly about any amount of cleaning she has to do. When dad cleans, instead of thanking him, she just complains about what a terrible job he did and how she has to do everything.

She has the worst of the worst shit tests. She finds the most inconvenient time to make her husband clean, like when he's watching a football game or in the middle of something important. I think she's secretly hoping he'll stand up for himself, but he always caves and does what she asks.

I think the problem with modern day society is that it tells women that any amount of cleaning they have to do is back breaking labor and that it's sexist. So what ends up happening is that men end up doing half the chores in addition to earning most of the money, while women do the other half of the chores and their part time jobs - so they are working less than men - but still bitch about it.

I guess all you can do is continue to try and improve yourself, try to find an equitable way to split the chores so you both have energy, and don't cave in to unreasonable demands, no matter how much bitching and anger this will incur. Because the less you cave, the more she'll secretly respect you and stop shit testing you.

I am a married Rp'er and my wife is very happy with our relationship.

She likes that we both have our roles, and that I lead and she follows.

[–]RPrecruit 3 points4 points5 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I've been married for 7 years, together for 9. When we first got together I would have been considered a natural alpha. I had my plates and all that. Got together with my future wife and all that went by the way-side.

Over the years I became more and more of a beta-ized chump. I see that now. Beta decisions I have made over the years are staggering to me to think about now. Poor, poor choices for pussy.

As expected the amount of sex dried up and beta me thought that by escalating beta behaviours (being a nice guy) would sort that out. As I know now, wasted effort on my part.

Discovered TRP about 3 weeks ago, also found /r/becomeaman (love both these sub-reddits btw), and have consumed and acclimated as much of the content as I can. I've read all the Year-One stuff on Rational Male, and am working through the Year Two stuff right now.

Started getting my shit together, Got a new job for the New Year, starting working out, and am teaching myself to run. Major self improvement stuff for me. More importantly, I'm not tailoring my behaviours to try to get my wife to fuck me. Pussy is now number 5 on my list of important things. Me, Money, My Son, and Family are now 1 through 4.

Not going to lie, the last 3 weeks have not been a cake walk for me. Its tough. I've made mistakes, I know that. But now I can see where they are and improve them. It's been a 3 week battle for frame control. She is not giving in easy. But neither am I any more. I know its working though. 2 days ago was a surprise BJ. There hasn't been a surprise BJ in years. But also a lot of " I hate how you talk to me now" and "why are you acting like such a jerk?" Just her throwing shit tests (and lots of them) to see if I will budge from my new perspective.

It's funny though. Right now almost everything is a shit test from her to try and knock me out of my frame. But each time its just making my frame stronger and validating what I'm seeing here. So thank you Red Pill!

To answer the question raised by OP, my wife seems to hate RP lifestyle, but she will respect me more for it after she fully acclimates to it. If she doesn't or becomes too much trouble then I will have to bite the bullet and take an "L". A month ago I wouldn't have even considered that an option. Now its an option that is on the table for me. I deserve to be happy. My sole purpose on this planet is not to make some bitch happy, but rather to make my self happy and provide the best life possible to me and my son. She can either be part of that or get the fuck out the way!!

This was way longer than I thought it would be. I must have been holding on to this for a while. Haha.

[–]3trplurker 3 points4 points5 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Most girls aren't going to visibly agree with it, doing so would compromise whatever power they have amassed. Women constantly seek to acquire social power by altering the frame.

[–]Gstreetshit 2 points3 points4 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I'm happily married to an awesome women. My wife is good with TRP behavior and despises new wave feminism. She isn't afraid of work and also looks forward to raising a family.

[–]slfnflctd 2 points3 points4 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Been with my wife for over 10 years. Started out more alpha - although with no idea what I was doing - then went beta pretty fast through lack of discipline and failing to maintain frame (always had trouble with that, I'm smart but not quick-witted-- memorization is the way to overcome this, working on it). Relationship went to hell early on but I felt 'stuck', in large part due to my own poor choices.

Like with others in this thread, my wife professes disdain for red pill concepts while responding to them quite readily. She claims to have bought into the idea that attractiveness is a malleable, subjective social construct, yet flat out admits she herself isn't attracted to fat guys (any more than I'm attracted to her when she's heavier, which has of course been for 90% of our relationship). I've never actually discussed TRP with her directly as I know her well enough to be able to predict the nuclear-level hamster detonation which would occur, but if we stay together long enough for her to acclimate as I steer us through the full transition, one day it should make sense to her on some level (even though her ego probably won't allow her to completely accept it).

I recently realized that I've had a mix of alpha and beta traits since I was a kid, it's just that I leaned toward beta because of a stifling over-religious upbringing and because I was conditioned by my dad's temper tantrums (and physically stronger bullies) to avoid conflict. I thought it was 'easier' that way, and ended up really fucking myself over. This long-running conditioning is taking time to turn around.

For a while I'd given up, then went through a phase of trying to set up enough incentives for myself to push past the blocks. My doctor telling me my blood pressure & cholesterol were too high was the tipping point. For the past couple months I've all but eliminated alcohol, drastically changed my diet and have been working out like a machine. I still struggle with the depression and regret that got me here at times, but focusing on concrete tasks usually pulls me out of it-- and there are days where I feel absolutely unstoppable & fantastic now (while sober), which didn't happen for many years.

My job was holding me back, so I saved up enough for over 6 months of my share of expenses and quit. I'm setting up multiple ways to earn income independently now, as well as finally taking care of a lot of home improvement stuff that was part of what was making me feel 'stuck'. I also directly informed my wife that she is not the last person I'm ever going to have sex with in my life. She's resisted me on everything, but not quite as much as I expected - perhaps in part because of my gradual, somewhat stoic, low key approach - and she is happier than she's been in a long time, even offering BJs (again, as others have reported). Things are looking up. This shit works, guys.

guarantee there's lots of deluded married TRPers who think it could never happen to them

keep it interesting and stay sexy fellas

[–]FortunateBum -3 points-2 points-1 points 12 years ago (24 children) | Copy Link

LTR for a couple of years. Live together. I keep her at an emotional distance and it seems to work. Sex has petered off into almost nothing but I don't whine about it. I'm sure it'll come back eventually. Most important to me is that she works, makes more than me, and is not impossible to live with. Yeah, she's bitchy and complains about everything, but I've learned to accept and deal since all women will do that.

Don't know what to tell you if you're thinking of "settling down". If your finances are solid, I wouldn't do it. What's the point? Family? Marry the most kept 18-year-old you can find who wants to play house.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 12 years ago (23 children) | Copy Link

Sex has petered off into almost nothing but I don't whine about it. I'm sure it'll come back eventually.

What in the actual fuck? How can you live like this?

[–]FortunateBum -1 points0 points1 point 12 years ago (22 children) | Copy Link

There's more to life than chasing tail and I've had my share.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 12 years ago (21 children) | Copy Link

You aren't chasing tail, you're fucking your wife. It's her main fucking job to fuck you. Jesus fuck.

Are you actually serious? I do not understand how you haven't gone mad from lack of poon.

[–]FortunateBum 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (20 children) | Copy Link

Maybe I am mad (crazy)?

But seriously, I believe in MGTOW. I think that for most men, like myself, getting sex on a regular basis is not a realistic possibility. Most of us are going to have dry spells. That's just the way it is.

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points6 points 12 years ago (15 children) | Copy Link

Why can't you just tell her that you expect sex whenever you want it, and that she needs to provide that, or you'll leave? People need sex. You need sex. She needs sex. She needs to feel desired, or she will not respect you, need you, want you, at all.

I don't think you can have a sexless relationship that is good in other regards. You need the bonding experience that sex offers. She needs the domination that the act of penetration gives in order to know her place in the relationship. You need to fuck her in order to feel like a man, otherwise what are you? You may as well cut your fucking balls off.

You aren't going though a 'dry spell.' You don't have sex with your woman. That's dreadful, it ignores a basic human need for both of you, and will unlimitedly lead to desperate misery. Making a woman miserable by not fucking her is just as bad as the other way around. Sort it out man.

[–]FortunateBum 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (14 children) | Copy Link

I know you don't want to hear or believe this, but women don't need sex. They can easily live without it. I know you don't believe me, but it's what I've found through my experience in life. A basic human need? Maybe. For men.

Look up the literature on sexless marriages and relationships. There are many more of them than you'd think. Think about gays. Lots of gay men don't even do anal. Think about lesbians. Imagine two women, both lacking large amounts of T or desire. How often do you think they're fucking? Not very often I guarantee.

Making a woman miserable by not fucking her is just as bad as the other way around.

I'm of the opinion at this point in my life that many, if not most women don't even enjoy sex. I think my gf enjoyed it when we had it, but you can never really know with a woman. Having orgasms and desire is a constant problem for a woman. If they really liked and wanted sex as much as men, that wouldn't be a problem.

[–]wander993 points 12 years ago [recovered] (1 child) | Copy Link

dude what are you even doing on this sub

[–]FortunateBum 1 point2 points3 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Like everyone else I want to know the truth about female behavior and use that to my advantage.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 12 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

Lesbian bed death is a real thing. You are quite right. Many lesbians are alone for precisely this reason. However, don't confuse a lack of drive for sex, with a lack of need. The drive comes from the man. Both men and women have the need.

Having orgasms and desire is a constant problem for a woman. If they really liked and wanted sex as much as men, that wouldn't be a problem.

That's why it needs to be a duty. Because you can't rely on them expressing the desire. Make sex mandatory, your relationship dynamic will improve, and she will start to understand and appreciate you. I also don't care too much about female orgasms and desire. If she understands that sex is non negotiable, and is your right, everything else will fall into place. I fucking hate this attitude that sex is entirely controlled by her. She doesn't want it so you don't have it. Bullshit. Total fucking bullshit. It's your pussy. Fucking claim it.

[–]FortunateBum 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Of course I don't totally agree with your attitude regarding this issue, but I will say this. Just from my own experience, female sex drive seems to drastically change after you move in. Before moving in, sex is much more regular and constant. It's almost as if, on a subconscious level, women are prostituting themselves. Why this would be the case I have no idea. It just seems to happen.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 12 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

female sex drive seems to drastically change after you move in.

I agree.

But my point is it shouldn't matter.

Out of interest, what about my attitude don't you agree with?

[–]slcjosh 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

you are defying your own nature. this has to be a troll...

[–]FortunateBum 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

"Defying your own nature" as you put it is necessary to get along in today's world. Otherwise I'd be out there raping, murdering, and building my harem.

Why would you call me a troll? Fine, I won't share my honest opinions anymore.

[–]slcjosh 1 point2 points3 points 12 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

i just find it hard to buy into a story that youre just going to accept a dry spell while you subscribe to TRP theory. Im not trying to pass judgement, but accepting a "dry spell" is not exactly doing something about your situation to benefit you or your partner.

You think if a LTR goes on for years, decades, you won't have any dry spells? It happens. It's normal. Why is this so hard to believe?

because if i was in a dry spell, its because i wasnt doing what was needed, my partner wasnt either, and the relationships had run its course.

Well if that's the case then every relationship will eventually run its course. I think that may be accurate.

Sure it is. I have a girlfriend and she improves my life a lot. I would love to have lots of one night stands, but since she wants to be monogamous I'm willing to sacrifice that because what she adds to my life is worth it.

I just don't put her on a pedestal.
