What does Monk Mode mean, exactly?

MGTOW ideas include avoiding marriage and cohabitation and LTRs in favor of casual actions at best as a form of self protection against the problems inherent in marriage and LTRs.

Monk mode is generally avoiding any form of non business transaction with women, including casual sex, and chasing women in general.

So like general MGTOW, but also not really wasting time with even casual.

I went monk awhile ago after my last casual sex encounter. I just no longer see any value in dating for me at all.

I don’t hate women, I just see no value in relationships outside of someone getting me my food order or light friendships.

I don’t feel any thirst to chase women, not that I really did before, I just can’t justify and time or energy wasted on an endeavor I see as having zero or a negative value.

It’s the same logic as having a dog. In theory, a dog can be fun or useful in someway. But the overall negatives and expenses of having a dog makes me not want to have one. And the positives of having a dog are ephemeral and fleeting and exist all in my mind.

Does that make sense? In theory there might be some positives to a relationship, but I value money, free time, and peace and quiet more.

Sex? Don’t care I’m better at it.

An occasional back rub? I can get a massage.

Food? Women are now incapable of basic cooking tasks, and I’m better at it anyway. And that’s all “oppression” to them anyway.

Time? I use all of it. Why would I want to waste my time fixing her issues or giving her attention? I’m a selfish pig that believes my time has value.

But those are just my reasons why I went monk.

Other people have their own. Some may fear diseases. Some may have been previously divorce raped. Who knows?

I just no longer desire even casual sexual flings like I used to. So their value is not passing the risk/reward test.

I think an answer you can derive from some of the responses is that the definition varies. The thread has sortof covered the cohab and sex aspect but I believe there is an age component. I've been consuming this content for quite awhile and whenever I hear monk I associate it with some of the elder content creators. Whiskey Stills uploaded a vid a few minutes ago with 'monk' in the title. I've always considered him a monk. Same with Vention. Might just be my perspective.

My take on monk mode is that it's whatever you need it to be at the time. It's a temporary 'mode' of living which may last quite a long time, if necessary, but a healthy man generally emerges from it eventually. Which is not to say that you go back to the way things were before.

It's a reset button. It's a conscious decision to step back from your life as it is, for something simpler, kind of like a sabbatical, for a time in order to "get your head straight." Depending on the life you're stepping away from it may mean that you step away from all possible contact with women. Everyone's different, and their reasons for monk mode are different. Other men may step away from relationships with women but, if they're truly able to compartmentalize, they might decide to keep casual, no strings attached sex. Still others may step away from going to bars and getting drunk every weekend (or every night), or from their toxic friend group or family, or from working 60 hours a week, or excessive video games or internet, or any combination of things.

The point is that when entering monk mode, you're stepping away from whatever is the bullshit in your life. It's most commonly associated with women, relationships and sex because for many men, that's the biggest source of useless BS, unnecessary angst and drama and wasted time, energy and resources in their lives, but it can be anything.

The "reset" part of monk mode is that after you step away from whatever is toxic to you in your life, you take the time to reflect and think about what you want to do differently going forward. Use the newfound time you have to build healthy habits and a healthy lifestyle. Think. Ponder. Get outside and get some exercise. Learn to be alone with yourself. Start up a healthy hobby. Learn some new skills. Read. Get a motorcycle and camp your way across the country. Fix an old car or boat. Use your time purposefully and productively. Plan your life rather than letting life "happen to you." Once again, what this is is up to you, and will depend largely on what part of your life you're trying to fix with monk mode.

Hopefully, if all goes well, when you emerge you've learned a lot about yourself and you can re-engage with life with a new set of rules, where you don't fall back into your old habits of putting up with bad behavior with women or other relationships, or drinking to much or wasting time or whatever you were working on, and you'll have some healthy habits and alternatives to replace what you got rid of.

To me, that's monk mode.

I just wanted to add that I highly recommend monk mode for those who don't believe in soul mates. So, pretty much, anyone who likes having money.

My understanding is that Monk Mode means NO sex at all. You can't be a monk if you are having sex because a monk is someone who is celibate.

All MGTOW avoid LTR, cohabs and marriage. The distinction is that a monk has gone a step further and is not even engaging in casual sex.

Going monk doesn't have to be permanent. Many guys do it temporarily in order to focus exclusively on building wealth, improving a skill, getting into better shape or some other endeavor. Some do it in order to self-examine.

I suppose actual monks are 100% celibate, so I would imagine that's the definition of "monk mode". Personally, I wouldn't even use a pro, because what's to stop them screaming "rape" or #MeToo you? After all, the police would find evidence of sex, and then it's game over.

Paying for sex isn't monk mode. Ridiculous people on this board truly think that. Was Franz Kafka a monk because a brothel was a big staple of his life? Hell no. I don't care what year it is, 2020 or 1880, you're not a 'monk' if you pay for sex. You're not practicing discipline. You're just another man with a crutch. Mental gymnastics at its finest.

It's short for 'monkey mode', which means that you just sort of do whatever you want, but the connotation is that your living space will get messy, and you will be disheveled most of the time.
