Is hypergamy equivalent to how we view the workplace?

I'd say it has a very small overlap.

There are distinct differences between hypergamy with people and relationships, and that with a career.

With your career, you have to possess a certain level of education, experience, skills, etc....

Essentially; you have to be worthy of being offered a job in the first place... not not even speak of keeping it.

Well, imagine you had job offers from hundreds, thousands of companies that all offered you money "because you're young and cute!"

"But what about job experience/skills/education!" You ask.

"Don't worry! You're adorable!"

Eventually, you'll be "let go" from a job like that, as a younger, cuter job applicant takes your place... because when your cuteness fades, you have no job experience,education, skills, etc.

THATS hypergamy, and it's eventual consequences.

As for you? You are worth more than a minimum wage job. And this new company says you're worth more than your current job.

The only question that remains is... how much does your current company value YOU?

And how much do you value yourself?

Could it be possible that your self evaluation of your worth is realistic, or otherwise?

It's not the same thing. If your value goes up and you're able to shop around to earn more money, that's just business. There was never any phony pretense about your working relationship to your company being about love. If you're in a supposedly loving relationship and she has sworn vows to the effect of it being about love and she's committed to being loyal to you, and then she breaks those vows, that's a betrayal. They're two very different situations.

I think it's human nature to want new experiences, and the more experiences a person has, the more they crave, just like how with a porn addiction guys will often start to crave more exotic material over time. It's the same principle... it's testing the grass to see if it's really greener on the other side and sampling different menu items from the buffet to see which taste best.

There's no right or wrong to this. You make the best guess you can and hope it's the right one. If it isn't, well you learned from the experience. Without this drive to grow and progress it's unlikely as a species we would have even reached this level of technological development, so there's definitely something to be said for it.

Hypergamy is more like you'll only take a job which pays at least X amount or remain unemployed, rather than whatever best you'll get.

Sometimes you'll settle for less, but regard your employer as beneath what you deserve, but you need the money. But it's the job with Google that gives you the tingles, so as soon as something like that is offered you'll gleefully discard your current job.

They're very similar. Take this situation for example.

A girl is happy in a relationship with a guy and; A girl sees another man who's more attractive and wealthier than her current man.

The same can be applied for a guy. The premise raises temptation and causes a choice.

1). Do I leave my man and pursue another man who is more attractive and can provide better resources for me? Or

2). Do I stay in my current relationship?

If she selects 1, there are two outcomes

Outcome 1: she has no guarantee. She may not be able to get with the man and risks being caught. Her relationship may end and she may never get the man she wants. I think this is a deterrent for many relationships and why many people stay contempt.

Outcome 2: Another outcome is, she could leave the man and get with the other man who's more attractive, wealthier and has access to better resources. But they may not be compatible. He could be more abusive, an Cheater, treat her badly and have a worse personality etc. She could end up in a unhappy relationship. And ultimately end up worse off.

Jobs are the same. If I'm offered a job with a higher salary I'd consider it. I'd look at the working environment, what they offer and then come to a conclusion whether it's worth leaving my old job for. If the salary is significantly higher, well I'm gone. I think humans are hypergamous by nature.

I could get rejected by that job. Unlike with relationships its easier to apply for jobs in discreet and not get found out by your employer. There's less loyalty and commitment involved in the workplace in contrast to your partner in a relationship.

Unlike jobs, in relationships things are more uncertain. Transferring from one partner to another has an element of uncertainty. As your new partner could be incompatible with you and if you had a kid or ended up divorcing her, you could have long term life impacts. Whereas in a job, I personally believe in a month's time you sort of know what the job will entail and whether you'll like it. In relationships, red flags can appear decades down the line that could result in a divorce or you ending up in a sexless or unhappy relationship.

From experience I would choose choice 2. I think its important for men to experience quite a few relationships so that looks do not cloud our judgement. I wouldn't throw away a potential marriage or long lasting relationship in the pursuit of trying to bang an more attractive woman.

Pandemic is giving me time to work on my self and my purpose. I am looking at new endeavours. Turning the page. The difficulty is that, unless a nomad or entrepreneurship, you will always be dealing with Karen's.
