Most of college is bullshit in the USA. And I think it's an absolute tragedy. You probably are learning all kinds of useless shit to clog up your brain from what you will actually use in whatever field you're choosing.

Same happened to me. Objectively speaking, I use about 5% of my knowledge from college in my field. The rest, I mean all of the rest, was on the job training. But they wouldnt hire me without that stupid fucking piece of paper.

This is how I would change college.

Majors that have little to no hope of getting a job, are prohibited from obtaining student loans or grants. So if you want to study gender studies, underwater basket weaving or other useless majors, are on your own.
Employers would be prohibited from not hiring anyone without experience, if they are applying for any work visas - whether they are approved or not.
Colleges and universities that have an excess of administration positions (i.e. tons of crony positions) shall be ineligible for federal and state grants and loans.
Colleges and universities shall accept an Associate's degree as their first two years. Students become juniors and continue their education in the 4 year college.
Any major that has an unemployment rate north of 10% shall be ineligible for student loans or grants. If your program is so full of garbage that employers don't want to hire your graduates, that's your fault.

I am not from the west but all college/university degrees are useless over here because there is a shortage of jobs. Even STEM related degree is worthless when there is a free flow of cheap labor that companies can exploit. Some one the guys pointed out that colleges are teaching useless shit to students and the same is happening here. With such limited knowledge in their field, fresh grads are fucked as they face stiff competition from work pass holders with more experience and willing to work more for less pay. Which employer would be willing to train a fresh grad with no work experience when they can simply hire a work pass holder? It is a truly fucked world out there.

How would I change college/university

Fix the broken work pass system. This would have to involve getting rid of corporate lobbyist and scumbag politicians who allow the system to be exploited.
Mandatory 1 year Internship to allow student to gain work experience.
Get rid of all the worthless liberal arts course in all degree programs. Why does a CS student need to know about culture, diversity, acting and whatever crap there is about liberal arts? What a waste of time and energy.
Get rid of all the degree programs with zero job prospect. All the liberal arts and some obsolete engineering ones.

I hate the bachelor's degree system. I can only get access to those classes that I am obligated to attend in order to graduate. I would also love to take some other classes, just out of curiosity. But I am not allowed to, I already asked.

To establish a culture diversity is needed, A Liberal arts degree, whilst on the face of it seems potentially useless, brings benefits to society as a whole. As humans we need all the knowledge we can get 😉
