As the Great Granddaddy of CorporateLand, I say "Take 'yes' for an answer." You have exited the negotiations phase, and now, if you push it, you will just look like a grasping dick.

I hope you read over my CorporateLand series; if not, you should. Also, go over the Game Film. What went right in your negotiation? What went wrong? What could have been done better? Every negotiation should be a learning experience.

In this case, I would say no. You asked for the maximum listed, and he gave it to you. His listing of the salary range was the start of negotiations. When you offered 60 and he accepted then that end negotiations.

Asking for more NOW is not negotiating, it is opening up Re-negotiation.

Trying to renegotiate by increasing over your initial offer after making it and he has accepted and sent an offer letter is a good way to offend the new boss and either start off on the wrong foot, or even have the offer withdrawn.

The time to have asked for more that 60 was when you were asked what you wanted. You made the GOOD decision to ask for 60 from the start rather than making a weak split the difference 50 offer. He like you and was willing to give you the maximum he had listed.

Be happy, you actually WON negotiation.

Take the job man. You don't have room for negotiation now. That's going to look greedy. Move up in the company in 3-8 months you'll be making 80.

You did negotiate, and you won.

Negotiation doesn't always involve the classic haggling back and forth, a lot happens behind the scenes. It can be keeping your cards close (not giving previous salary) and getting them to commit to an offer and/or a number before you give a number (which they did first by giving a range in the ad), and when and if you do give a number it's higher than you would be willing to take so that if they counter you end at a number you're happy with.

The company gave the offer and so was already committed (and had wasted time on you and turning down other candidates), you then went for the highest thing available and got it.
Could you have maybe gone for 65? Sure, maybe he'd have countered with 62 and you'd have ended at 62.5. Sweet. Or maybe he'd have thought "seriously, the offer was maxed at 60 and this asshole still wants more" and they'd have pulled the offer or worse given you 55 out of spite and then you'd start on bad terms with management.
I think you did negotiate and you negotiated well. Honestly that's more ballsy than I'd have done asking for max of the range (unless you are damn qualified), especially coming from such a comparatively lower number (but surely you never told them what you were already making so honestly it has not influence here).

You came out way ahead in pay, and this guy knows you are a man and go big on things. Looks like a win-win to me, good job and congrats.

60k is a lot less money than you think it is. You should have said something like "I saw 60 was your max but I was looking for 80."

Accept the offer. Learn everything you can from a high level view. Approach boss and ask him "what would I need to do to earn an extra $3/h?".

And then find opportunities to execute said instructions, journal it, execute until proficient (I give myself 3 months), at end of month 6 present journal and ask to be given the $3/h raise.

Two outcomes:

You get raise. Response: Repeat again next year.
Denied raise for any reason. Reason is irrelevant. Continue to perform additional duties. Begin looking for other work immediately. When asked why you're looking to leave so early by other companies say: "I am not challenged enough in my position. In fact, I've taken on additional responsibilities outside my job scope." Implied initiative. Competitor star player. HR wet dream.

Result: $45k to $98k in 6 years with no professional designation. Offered $108k, rejected it to start my entrepreneurial career.
