My wife divorced me 7 years ago, when I got involved with another woman. I never had sex with that woman and the naughtiest thing we have done was kiss in the movie theatre. We texted a lot though (not sexted) and my wife got very paranoid and hacked my mailbox and that woman's mailbox, wrote her emails, etc. It didn't last long though and she said I had to leave. My daughter was 3 years old at the time.
My life went downhill since then. I wouldn't go into details, but I am quite unhappy with my personal life and my living conditions.
I got a job offer in another country and I am considering a move. This is likely to improve the quality of my life and to open it for new possibilities.
I am hesitant though, because I wouldn't be able to take my 10 year old daughter with me. However, I am a weekend dad. I see her once a weekend, and she doesn't sleep over anymore because my current partner is "difficult". So, normally it's just several hours a weekend. Some weekends are skipped due to various life circumstances.
My ex-wife is fine with my daughter visiting and staying with me in the other country for school breaks, holidays and whatnot if I move. Everybody's telling me that this is going to be much better for both myself and my daughter, and that in the end these much longer stays will mean so much more than our time-limited weekends. The country in question has a much better climate (Mediterranean) and quality of life.
Can any of the weekend dads put their two cents in please?
Thanks for your help! :)

Wow. You're lucky. Take advantage. I live in another country, and when I asked for the kids to have passports, the ex-wife and her lawyer said 'no fucking way'. As soon as tried to challenge it in court, I was shut down.
It seems to me that visiting every weekend (or every other weekend) is too short of a time to get to know a kid. It's over as soon as it starts. But if you can have her for weeks at a time (summer/Christmas), I think it would be great. Your daughter would be exposed to a new culture, not just "another weekend at dad's".
And -- hate to say it -- you need to choose between your kid and your new partner. Or broker a truce. No kid wants a hostile situation.
