First time poster. I've been navigating a divorce where we both agreed to be amicable but things have been anything but that. Every time she calls to talk about business she throws in so much vitriol and hate. I understand her anger because I cheated on her and I wasn't getting help for my issues when I was married but over the past 6 months of therapy I've come to see we were in a very toxic relationship that mirrored her parent's relationship. When I was feeling guilty I agreed I'd repay the wedding and pay her legal fees and support her until she finished school and got a teaching job. Now she's made a contract that basically is demanding I give her almost my entire income, pay the wedding, and her legal fees and I've had enough. I'm lawyering up and making a counter proposal that I won't pay the wedding and her legal fees. Also I will pay her enough to cover the house bills and what not. I'm bracing myself for her reaction when she learns I've gotten an attorney. If it goes to a judge my state is a "no fault" state and all of the assets are divided up 50/50 so I'm hoping her attorney has the sense to tell her my offer is the best deal she's going to get. Any advice how to mentally prepare myself for what I know is to come?
