Cant even have a civil lunch, with women without the worry of cancel culture. Just hang with the guys some no homo lunch with the guys

[–]PeonSupreme[S] 38 points39 points40 points 5 years ago (36 children) | Copy Link

Get enough women in a room and eventually it’ll turn into an anti-male hatefest.

[–]ShoutoutsToSimple 18 points19 points20 points 5 years ago (35 children) | Copy Link

That sounds sexist, but it ends up being true a lot of the time. If I had to speculate as to why, it would be that hateful attitudes are tolerated from women moreso than from men. I don't think women are more likely to have such hateful attitudes. But I think because there is more tolerance, fewer women feel the need to suppress those thoughts and grow as a person, whereas men are forced to due to lack of tolerance.

For example, say you have 100 men and 100 women. And they are identical. 10 men and 10 women are extremely hateful bigots. They don't care what anyone else thinks. They are going to hate the opposite gender no matter what. 20 men and 20 women lean toward thinking some fairly hateful things about the opposite gender, but are not so far gone that they insist on these thoughts. It's just that they naturally trend toward them unless they put in the effort not to. 30 men and 30 women lean the other direction, toward kindness, but are susceptible to hatred if they are convinced that there is good reason for it. And then 40 men and 40 women are great people without a judgmental or hateful bone in their body.

Given the above scenario, let's say we live in a society which, oh I don't know, teaches men that thinking anything negative about women is misogyny and is terrible, but which doesn't teach the same thing to women, but instead fuels their potential hatred of men by constantly telling them how men oppress them. Despite the fact that we have just defined men and women as being identical to one another, the way society is described here will result in most women hating men, and very few men hating women. Let's walk through it.

The 10 men and 10 women are going to hate the other gender no matter what. So we have 10 sexist men and 10 sexist women.

The 20 men and 20 women naturally lean toward hatred, but society causes them to diverge. The 20 men are taught from childhood that thinking anything negative about women is a horrible sin. So despite their natural inclination, these men grow up to be more egalitarian, suppressing what would otherwise be their urge to hate women. Meanwhile, the same message is not being sent to women, so those 20 women do end up hating men. So we have 10 sexist men and 30 sexist women.

The 30 men and 30 women naturally lean away from hatred, but society once again causes them to diverse. The 30 women are taught from childhood that misogyny is everywhere, and that it's the fault of men. They are taught that men oppress them because they are women. So despite their natural inclination, these women grow up to be sexist, because their minds are poisoned against men on a daily basis. Meanwhile, the same message is not being sent to men, so those 30 men end up aligned with their natural inclination, which is not hating women. So we have 10 sexist men and 60 sexist women.

And then the 40 men and 40 women continue being great people who don't judge others, regardless of what society says. So we maintain 10 sexist men and 60 sexist women.

These are obviously just made-up numbers, and a deliberate over-simplification of things for the sake of demonstration. But I think the idea is clear. Even if men and women are inherently the same, society itself can lead to a situation where there are far more sexist women than sexist men. Because men who lean toward judgment have that drilled out of them, and women who lean away from judgment have that drilled out of them. So the end result is far more sexist women, not because women are worse people, but because society's messaging is fucked up and inconsistent.

In summary, I have observed the same thing. Sometimes, men really are sexist assholes. But I never feel like if you put 10 men in a room together, there's any likelihood at all of the conversation turning into "women suck". But time and time again, when you put 10 women in a room together, it won't take long before the conversation becomes about how men are awful. I'm a fairly effeminate man, and I'm in a long-term relationship with a woman. So I'm considered "safe" when it comes to ladies nights. I fairly often am invited to participate in ladies nights. And consistently, I'll hear the most sexist shit be said as if it's nothing. It's just women hanging out with women, and consistently, it turns to sexism.

I hang out with woman as a woman and it doesn't turn into "men bad". Sometimes we talk about sexual assault and harassment but we talk about it to gain a sense of solidarity not to say men suck

[–]PeonSupreme[S] 21 points22 points23 points 5 years ago (31 children) | Copy Link

How long would your sense of solidarity last if someone brought up the fact that men and women commit sexual assault at virtually equal rates? I’ve found that to be the quickest way to jeopardize any sense of solidarity I’ve had with most women.

[+][deleted] -26 points-25 points-24 points 5 years ago (30 children) | Copy Link

Women can also be assaulted and harassed by women you know. We talk about that too.

[–]PeonSupreme[S] 19 points20 points21 points 5 years ago (29 children) | Copy Link

So can men.

[+][deleted] -22 points-21 points-20 points 5 years ago (14 children) | Copy Link

But why would that be brought up at a girl's night? Would you bring up women if you were talking about sexual assault with your bros?

[–]PeonSupreme[S] 16 points17 points18 points 5 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

I would just like to see women truly acknowledge their own capacity for harming men, to themselves and to each other. I’ve yet to see that happen in even a minimal way.

It doesn’t matter to me where it happens. I just want to see it happen once before I shuffle off this mortal coil.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 5 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

How am I supposed to bring that up exactly?

"He locked the door and I felt I had no choice but to do as he said, it took me years to feel any sense of normalcy again"

"Okay, but did you know men and women commit sexual assault at virtually equal rates? Let's talk about that."

[–]PeonSupreme13 points 5 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

I have no idea how to wean women off their unique sense of victimhood. I’ve basically given up.

[–]AnonContribrutor4 points 5 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

"examples examples examples"

"So yeah men are [insert general negative thing}"

and if that happened, then you could bring up "its not just men, so lets not get too steered in an anti-male direction but keep it anti-idiots" or something like that.

With that said, I would guess that situation might not come up often for you. I think other guy (Peon) is mostly just frustrated with the situation and has not exactly come up with the ideal solution yet (which I would not expect of him).

[–]bufedad 11 points12 points13 points 5 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link

But why would that be brought up at a girl's night?

Haven't you said that good apples in a group are supposed to deal with the bad apples of that group?

[–][deleted] -1 points0 points1 point 5 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

How should I bring it up?

[–][deleted]7 points 5 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

The same way you expect men to bring it up. As you've said before, it's up to the good apples, to deal with the bad apples in their group.

[–][deleted]0 points 5 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

I don't expect men to bring up women's sexual assault in men's support groups

[–][deleted]8 points 5 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

Support groups? You had to change it to support groups to weasel your way out of holding yourself to the same standard you hold men to?

About what you'd expect from a bigot

[–][deleted]0 points 5 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

Listen, if a woman in my group or on TwoX said "we should stay away from all men because they might rape us" I'd also call them out on it

[–][deleted]7 points 5 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

Bullshit, because they have said that on two, and you haven't called them out on it

[–][deleted]0 points 5 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

Link to it and I'll do it

[–][deleted]7 points 5 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

Oh, you'll do it of we call you out on a specific comment?

How nice.

Thats not the standard you hold men to, though is it....

[–]frustr8tion 0 points1 point2 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

So are you saying that men shouldn't be talking to each other about their toxic behaviours and thoughts that could lead to sexual assault?

[–][deleted] -3 points-2 points-1 points 5 years ago (13 children) | Copy Link

How would I bring that up exactly?

"Yeah I was sexually assaulted when I was a kid, I'm still trying to come to terms with it"

"Okay but did you know men and women assault at virtually equal rates?"

[–]PeonSupreme[S] 13 points14 points15 points 5 years ago (12 children) | Copy Link

Actually this is how that conversation usually goes:

Man: “I was sexually assaulted by a woman.”

Woman: “Who cares? This isn’t about you!”

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 5 years ago (11 children) | Copy Link

When did that happen?

[–]PeonSupreme10 points 5 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

Right around the time Metoo first got started, in a Facebook thread.

[–][deleted]0 points 5 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

Well I'm sorry that happened to you but I assure you not all groups of women are like that

[–]PeonSupreme3 points 5 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

Thanks

[–]Xx_undersc0relife_xX6 points 5 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

Ever heard of Johnny Depp?

[–]OriginalFinnah4 points 5 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

The poor dude is still going through court because of Amber Heard f* that b**

[–][deleted]-1 point 5 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

He wasn't sexually assaulted though. He's the victim of domestic violence yes but that has nothing to do with what we're talking about.

[–]Xx_undersc0relife_xX6 points 5 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

It does because it comes to show that no one cares if women abuse or exploit men

[–][deleted]6 points 5 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

Every victims group I ever tried to get help from.

[–]OriginalFinnah3 points 5 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

Yeah same. Even on r/deadbedrooms

[–]DavidByron24 points 5 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

From about 1990-2021

[–]OccultRitualCooking1 point 5 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

That has happened to me many times.

[–]DavidByron2 10 points11 points12 points 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

But then you think saying "Kill All Men" is OK so..... context.....

[–][deleted] -1 points0 points1 point 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I don't think saying kill all men is okay.

[–]nanan00 13 points14 points15 points 5 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Our HR rolled out some new policies a few years ago that basically state, male and female coworkers should not congregate or socialize and if they must they should have at least two representatives of each sex.

[–]OriginalFinnah 6 points7 points8 points 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Modern day is pathetic

[–]-NotFBI-agent006- 1 point2 points3 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

From all our ancestors have done, this is where we at in modern day society. Its crazy

[–]Rhum-runner 19 points20 points21 points 5 years ago* (2 children) | Copy Link

In the name of making women feel safe we will make a cultural/legal environment where men feel unsafe!!

-feminists.

[–]Xx_undersc0relife_xX 8 points9 points10 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yeah it doesn't matter if men are abused and ignored, it would be awful if anything were to happen to a woman

[–]hotcurrypowder 7 points8 points9 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

He's not afraid of women, just afraid he'll say something to a woman he doesn't know that well and be accused of sexual harassment.

[–]IBeMadToo 2 points3 points4 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I'm guessing this is in a work setting?

You can lunch with chicks but I recommend not discussing anything sexual at work (you're asking for it if you do). If they initiate it (and yes, some do), squash it quickly and move on or don't engage at all. If they don't drop it and you feel uncomfortable about it, just be honest and say that it isn't work appropriate or end the conversation and leave.

Better yet, lunch in a group of mixed genders if possible.

To true
