By standard viewing women are roughly 68% of domestic homicide victims. It's fairly misleading though and doesn't represent the bigger picture.

There is a term known as the "battered woman syndrome" which theorizes that most women who kill their partners are acting in retaliation to being victim of domestic violence themselves, but this has effectively been debunked and it turns out the opposite seems to be true.

For instance, this study found that financial gain is one of the most common motivators for women who kill, and disproves the idea that women who kill their partners are only ever acting defensively against "abusers."

All of the evidence indicates that abused men fit the theory of the "battered woman" better than abused women do.

This suggests that women are more likely to kill out of "malice", while men are more likely to kill out of self-defence, even further proof to this phenomena as noted below.

The rate of men who are murdered by intimate partners has decreased over the years in comparison to women, roughly forty years ago, women murdered their male partners at roughly the same rate as the reverse.

Research suggests that this change in prevalence is because domestic violence shelters for women were opened during the same time period. Instead of resorting to murder, many women can now escape their abuse through other means that are not available to men.

Women use in-direct methods to kill their intimate partner.

When you include partner assisted suicides and everything, just as many men are killed because of domestic violence as women.

When domestic violence related suicides are combined with domestic violence homicides, the total numbers of domestic violence related deaths are higher for males than females.

It's well known that wives tend to murder by proxy (getting a male lover, friend, payed killer, etc.) to commit violence on their behalf, which subsequently gets recorded either as being both perpetrated and instigated by the third-party male, or – and even if the wife is found to be implicated – as a "multiple-offender" killing without reference to a wife.

Wives also tend to murder by subterfuge (classically through poisoning) and I'd wager that these types of homicide go undetected far more than the overt actions of their male counterparts do.

Thus, it's possible that mariticide may be under-counted.

Lastly, roughly 26% (1/4) of men's suicides are linked to domestic violence and psychological abuse (which women are more likely to perpetrate).

There are a few. Most studies are tabulated for when women are the victims. And when men are victims, they seem to discount poisonings. Which is a way women have been killing men for awhile.

A few decades ago it was about the same rate as the other way around. Then something odd happened. The rate of women murdering their husbands drastically fell off. As far as people can see the reason was the mass opening of women's shelters who pander to these violent women. These domestic violence shelters (for women only) became a place for these crazy violent women to go and get some sort of validation of their psychoses. Or maybe just the ability to meet other crazy violent women like them and talk out their problems.

Feminists banned men from shelters so the rate of violent men killing their partners didn't change.

All very ironic considering that the shelters were supposed to be for victims, not perpetrators of domestic violence. But from the beginnings of the movement it was never like that in practice with about one third of the women who came for help being violent. So you might say this is one time feminists ended up helping men although it was the exact opposite of their intention of course.

Heterosexual dv situations are about 50% mutual and 50% one adult attacking the other. Of the latter it's about 50-50 who is attacking whom. But female violent attackers can get non-judgmental free therapy at shelters for women, and the men have nothing.

I know you’re talking about murder but I think this would also be a case that since women are more likely to initiate violence against a man and when a man retaliates then he could do a good amount of damage to her and possibly kill her then I think that would be one of the reasons why a women would be more likely to die because she initiated some sort of physical aggression towards him. This is what I’m suggesting tho from the article I listed above

Also, quite a while ago women killed their male partners (possibly even slightly more) than the reverse. But women got shelters, resources and help services that they (women) could go to if they were in an abusive relationship, and after that the rate of women who killed men decreased dramatically! Except there was no help for men (and there’s still not sadly) so the rate of women being murdered in relationships hasn’t decreased at all. I think if men get help there wouldn’t be women being killed so much... just like school shooters that are men, if they get help there would be no school shootings. But men get no help (not excusing it, just saying). You can’t stop violence against one person while promoting it against another.

Long story short, I don’t think men are that likely to get murdered by their partners not to say they don’t get murdered at all, but of course they could get stabbed, shot, mutilated, burned, severely Injured and/or have permanent Injuries and injuries that could lead to death . I do think there’s more to it tho

Yes the ratio of murdered women is higher even if domestic violence is pretty much 50/50. But the double, the ratio of kid's murdered by the mother vs father is 2/3. But no campaign for stopping women of killing kids when they have more ressources and options than men.

Spousal homicide last I read is 60/40 female/male victims.

Domestic homicide, which includes killing of siblings and children, is closer to parity. Interestingly mothers who kill children were more likely to kill sons than daughters, and while the converse was true for fathers, it was to less of a degree. Same for siblings killing siblings.

Children who kill their parents overwhelmingly killed their father as I recall.

u/FinallyReborn has already touched upon the fact that women use indirect methods to kill their partners.

If a man uses violence that may lead to death it can be usually described as a crime of passion as in there was no premeditation.

However, women tend to use indirect methods like poisoning that need a cool head and planning. Since planning is involved there is a higher likelihood that the murderer is never discovered.
