I’m now a grown woman but when I was in middle school my best friend’s parents got a divorce.

Her mom was a complete addict, while her father had to buy clothes for her, feed her, take her to school, and work long hours. Even after working so much he would still find time to hang out with her.

My mom was friends with her dad since both of them were going through a divorce, and there’s a lot my mom never told me until recently.

Her mom was abusive, would drink and spend all of their money. One day she wouldn’t let me friend come to school because she wanted to yell at her all day for clogging the shower drain.

When he finally filed for divorce her mom was livid. She got clean (somewhat, and she didn’t stop drinking) and filed for full custody. She denied drinking or any ignorance and just claimed to be a poor mother that wanted her child.

My friend didn’t even get to testify because she was 12 and apparently her opinion didn’t matter (kids don’t have brains and can’t tell when they are being neglected ig) so of course she got custody.

Her dad was only able to see her every other weekend, even when my friend would beg to stay with her dad she had to go back home. She was neglected constantly, berated by her mother who immediately got back on drugs and told her everyday that she wished she was never born.

Luckily she’s out of there now and is helping her dad during these trying times. He has asthma and can’t go out much. She doesn’t speak to her mom much anymore.

TLDR: She was put in danger constantly all because the judge wanted both parents to be in her life. But for whatever reason wanted her mom to have a majority custody...
