Those who believed "Feminism is Equality" , it is another wakeup call for them. Alas, but people keep ignoring such symptoms till the disease becomes uncontrollable.

Ah yes... the old 'future is female' chestnut. This phrase seems to be taken up around the world by many advocates of women's rights as a sassy and fun statement of solidarity as well as a critical take on a perceived 'male' past. It's obviously hard to categorically assert where any saying originated but it's not unreasonable to suggest that this one may be from the 1970s essay of American feminist, science-fiction writer, and political activist Sally Miller Gearhart entitled "The Future–-If There Is One–-is Female". She is certainly influential enough to coin a phrase as she is the person who created the first gender and woman's studies courses in the US.

Under the above wiki link it says the following:

"In her early career, Gearhart took part in a series of seminars at San Francisco State University, where feminist scholars were critically discussing issues of rape, slavery, and the possibility of nuclear annihilation. Gearhart outlines a three-step proposal for female-led social change from her essay, "The Future–-If There Is One–-is Female":

I) Every culture must begin to affirm a female future.

II) Species responsibility must be returned to women in every culture.

III) The proportion of men must be reduced to and maintained at approximately 10% of the human race."

It seems to me that the statement on the T-shirt is fairly separate from this essay. It's a way to identify as a committed member of a club which the wearer aspires to be part of because they honestly believe what the club tells them about society and the past and frankly, who could blame them? The feminist world view is parroted on most major news network, loads of movies, in the papers, in pop music and in advertising day in day out. This, combined with the fact that they are likely completely ignorant of point 3 means it's not fair to tar the everyday wearer of a shirt that says "the future is female" with the origin of the phrase. Realistically the vast majority of people probably think it means something pretty different.

Having said that, take a long hard look at point 3. Now consider that this person is responsible for the creation of women's and gender studies which have gone on to spawn some of the most popular degree courses in the world and which in turn arguably control the direction of feminism at large because they are the courses teaching the young minds who then go on to become the next 'wave' of feminism. If you're still comfortable wearing a shirt which states point 1 of a manifesto, I think you should read point 3.

Maybe the future of nursing or teaching is female but definitely not in the field I work in. There’s like 20 men for every one woman.
