These people tend to mix up respect and civility. To respect someone is to hold them in special regard.
You are entitled to civility, but you are not entitled to respect.

Thank you for the opinion, I always thought of respect as something you must give everyone unless they have done something otherwise.
[–]MeLittleSKS 0 points1 point2 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
yeah never understood that push that everyone "deserves respect". like, no, respect is earned. If someone wants my respect, they're going to have to earn it. But like you say, they are entitled to my civility, which they will have.
[–]bogart991 7 points8 points9 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Teach your kid respect is earned and not freely given and also people act out of self-interest so don't give your trust so easily or your going to end up getting hurt.

Respect those that you deem deserve it.
[–]RyansPutter 4 points5 points6 points 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
I'd even disagree with the rewrite. Not everyone deserves to be respected, especially if they don't respect themselves.
[–]Nefaria36766[S] 0 points1 point2 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Each to their own I guess, but where did the "especially if they don't respect themselves part." come from, when I didn't mention anything like it?
[–]ThirdPersonRecording 1 point2 points3 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
This is bullshit too. Respect isn't a common courtesy, earn that shit
[–]MyUserNameIsSkave 0 points1 point2 points 5 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
So, is there someone that can post it on a Feminist Sub ? I'm curious to see what happen.
[–]Nefaria36766[S] 2 points3 points4 points 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
I am pretty sure, I would get downvoted to hell.
[–]tragedyfish 2 points3 points4 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
It wouldn't be there long enough. It would be removed after the first report. That is, if it didn't get auto-removed by a bot that looks through a poster's comment & post history.

Respecting everyone is absurd -- I'm supposed to respect both Trump and Hillary?
Behaving respectfully is a different matter.

Maybe in other countries, where I live, you can pin anything on a guy, cry a few tears and believe you. A boy in our school got resticated because a girl accused him of hitting her. Besides the topic is not about that. It is about repect. BLM is a movement, not a mentality. What I posted is a mentality.

But poc have been in so many countries deeply stereotyped and disadvantaged for years and now they're fighting back. Why are you even bringing violence against women here. IN my country, women are treated like goddesses. Respect and violence are two different things and you are mixing them up. IN that case, shouldn't girls be taught to respect boys? My point is that all kids should be taught to treat everyone eqaully regardless of your gender.

I get a "All lives matter" vibe from this. Is it just me? Sure, we have to teach people to respect everyone, but putting an emphasis on respecting women doesn't mean one shouldn't teach them to respect others. Just like Black lives matter doesn't mean only black lives matter

I know that. But BLM is a movement, and it is fuelled by years of systematic racism. Like how there was a woman suffragette movement years before, because women didn't have voting rights. This isn't a same, it is more of a mentality, that men should be taught how to respect women, seeing that most of my friends consider men trash. BTW I am a girl, so yes this is from my viewpoint.
[+]Outrageous_Try -11 points-10 points-9 points 5 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link
I very much hate the "all men are trash" or "kill all men" chants myself. The reason being that it is sexist (there are far too many women who buy into gender roles aswell and defend them) and more importantly because it takes away the focus from the patriarchy. I think everyone would benefit if we got rid of stupid gender-roles that don't have any logical basis.
However we won't achieve this by taking away from the effort of feminism. We need to join forces, as we (should) have the same goal. A non-sexist society. And before someone says feminists see the mens rights movement as the enemy: This is only true for some feminists. Feminism isn't strictly defined, so different people understand it differently (Toxic assholes exist in every community, so seeing some TERFs isn't grounds for condemning the mivement as a whole). Don't waste precious energy fighting each other. Use it to take down sexist nonsense (E.g. learn from gay people)

I am not fighting anyone here. I am a girl and I hate feminism, because women do wrong things under this label. I am an egalitarian, and I believe in equal rights, hence I crossposted this. If women or men want to adapt to a gender role, then that's up to them.
[+]Outrageous_Try -6 points-5 points-4 points 5 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
I don't think the problem is with feminism itself. It is with toxic, men-hating feminists. They do however not fully represent the movement. Just like there are people in the mens-rights movement that hate on women, yet they don't represent the mens-rights movement
But due to the men hating so called feminists, the entire movement is sullied, and now people think that all feminists are bad.
