See I think many people are way too blood thirsty. Was this man a "danger to everyone" when on foot? No. He wasn't in a car trying to ram random civilians or something. Was he wrong to fight back? Personally I think so. Was he incredibly stupid and not thinking straight (I know he was drunk but this is a step beyond that) clearly. While I think he should've been arrested, and I think that the police were justified in trying to apprehend him, he did not commit a crime worthy of being literally executed.
A lot of people in America seem to think committing a crime, or fighting back against police, is immediate justification to be literally killed. Unless he was actively a legitimate danger to someone else, there was no reason to shoot him. They could've chased him down and arrested him. That would have been justified and something I'd bee 100% on the side of police about.
No one seems to put value on life anymore. Everyone has a right to their day in court. The hand waving people are having over 'well he didn't do X or he did Y means he should literally be EXECUTED' just blows my mind.
Think about how little people in America value life. It's sad, and I mean like emotionally sad. That Americans think so little of one another that executing someone who wasn't actively attempting to kill someone else is not only excusable but 'how things are done'.
Have some empathy, and understand that murdering people, literally snuffing out life, should be an absolute LAST resort. It should be a heavy burden. It should almost NEVER happen and when it does, it should be something that brings shock and sadness that a life had to be taken. It shouldn't be something so common that people just think 'whelp that sucks for that person and their family' but that's just normal around here.
It's not okay that people seem to think that others should be killed without due process just because they did something like try to flee for their lives, or resist. Would it be better if they complied? Maybe, but even compliance doesn't mean safety anymore sadly. I just don't grasp how people can value life so little in a country where solidarity after things like 9/11 showed how strong they can be when they come together.
