From my understanding, the claim that gender roles impacts diagnoses among women with Autism is false. As a man with Autism (what would be Asperger’s before the DSM-5), I’ve done a fair bit of research and reading on the subject. From what I’ve read, both in studies and in first-person accounts, Autism presents itself differently in women and girls. Women and girls with Autism tend to be more social and are better able to mask than boys and men with Autism. Just as how neurotypical men and women are different, so too are men and women with Autism.

The discrepancy in diagnoses stems from the fact that early Autism research focused on boys and men. This is because boys with Autism tend to be more noticeably social impaired. This focus led to the diagnostic criteria focusing on the male presentation of Autism, which causes women with Autism to have trouble getting diagnosed (usually, the possibility is disregarded due to good social skills). The discrepancy has nothing to do with gender soles or sexism. Note that it should still be corrected, but this needs to be done through the diagnostic criteria and through more research in how women and girls with Autism present.

While this comment has very little to do with men's rights itself, I believe that it is important to know that not everything that has a gender discrepancy is due to sexism or gender roles.

Actually, autism is underdiagnosed in women because it tends to present itself differently. Autistic women tend, while growing up, to emulate their peers to learn how to behave. So their autism is less noticeable.

There's also that a wider range of behavior is acceptable for women, so just being odd is not enough to warrant sending the girl to get a diagnosis.
