The studies I have seen before regarding this is that male doctors on average choose more challenging specialities with higher risks and accept more difficult and challenging cases. The point is that any comparison is quite difficult and will require correcting for many factors. I would be surprised once this is done if any sex difference is not very small compared to variation within the sexes.

It is annoying that this sort of meaningless comparison is widely publicised as demonstrating male inferiority and female superiority but anything showing the reverse is portrayed as showing male advanatage and discrimination agaainst women.

I would not be surprised if it turns out that the female doctors are mostly pediatricians, dermatologists, or oby-gyn, while the male doctors work in the emergency room or as surgeons.
