A new study did brain scans of 104 children 3-10 yrs old. Their maths test results were the same and they could see no difference on the scans. Gender differences show up later, when the mathematics gets more difficult. PISA and SAT tests show poorer performance for girls. The authors claim that the evidence for a biological cause for the gender differences which show up later is weak. This article somehow was accepted to the most prestigious science journal (Nature).

The project leader tells Sciencedaily: "Cantlon said she thinks society and culture likely are steering girls and young women away from math and STEM fields."

This claim is at odds with the fact that gender workplace segregation is LARGEST in countries with a higher gender equality index. The countries where girls are the LEAST likely to choose STEM are in Scandinavia.
